His videos used to make me angry and I unsubbed and don't watch them anymore.
The issue I have with his videos is that they're not instructional at all. He touts them as being instructional but thye're not. He doesn't teach you much of anything.

In a typical 20 min video, most of it is just a sped-up footage of them working on something. Context is minimal and his narration is just him preaching and reminiscing. Nothing is explained in detail... nothing!

These videos are pure entertainment. If you're watching this shit to actually learn how to build a house, you're better off with picking up one of the books on residential construction and studying that for 20min a day. You'll actually learn something this way.

I'm guessing he thought it would be clever to build a Craftsman style house because he's such a great craft$man.
My understanding is it's an odd lot (not looking it up, don't care enough) and he had to shoehorn something into the lot. That fucked up all the angles and proportions and I guess he's using the odd lot to justify making a monstrosity instead of being a craftsman and making it seamlessly fit.

We'll have the last laughs anons.
Scott is building it so that he'll outlive this house, a house which is his crowning accomplishment; the pinnacle of his life which he'll rest his hat on for the rest of his life!
Fast forward 20 years when he is on his deathbed, surrounded by his loving family and friends ...
>Everyone has gathered in Scott's bedroom, surrounding him with love - not a dry eye in the room.
>He whispers to each and every person of how proud he is of everyone, and how happy and well lived his life was. He wouldn't have changed anything.
>Then that one grandson with the big mouth stumbles into the room laughing
>But grandpa, that house you built fell down 5 years ago! Mom didn't want to tell you - they thought the news would kill you
>The house fell down and the owners sued and won since you documented all your mistakes so you could get $0.005 per view
>They had to demolish it and your kids have been paying the hundreds of thousands in civil suit costs because you killed a baby. You're bankrupt and blacklisted from ever getting a permit again.
That brief moment as Scott's ego and satisfaction fain, so will his soul ... and bowels as he leaves one final mess on this earth.

Daily reminder that being pro-brick is not racism against Amerifats.

Ive seen some Amerifat historical architecure and it had actual brick in it (risky due to quakes and fires I know, what were they thinking, thank God that Home of the Brave now made primitive brick illegal!!!!). PS - I have some Amerifat friends and I wasnt racist against them.

Reinforced concrete + brick or all RC+insulation. You should use more RC in civil construction as well, more secure and better ROI in the longrun.

Floor and beams above windows are RC and why is no RC on loading parts of the wall ("hal-timber position") a good thing? Its cheaper and faster not to use RC columns.
RC columns are much stronger than just bricks, they arent necessary on low rises.

this is good or bad depending do you isolate the roof and make it livable. We do timber roofs here as well but Im biased towards a concrete roof.
