It depends on market price for, “fat cattle.”
And it depends on the quality of the animal.
Market price fluctuates throughout the year, but normally the price is high in late August.
I sold some at the end of August and got $1.11 per pound live weight. The animals were about 1200 pounds.

That $4.00us is for hanging weight price. Packaged weight is much more. About $7-$8 for 100 pound bulk purchase.

Right now grass fed rib-eye steaks are $17 per pound.

1. Live weight or on the hoof is a living animal. This weight fluctuates depending on how much the animal consumes and how much they expel. Sale barns use this weight when selling cattle.

2. Hanging weight. After the animal has been butchered. The hooves, hide and other non-edibles have been removed and the carcass is cut in half or two sides. The hanging weight is per side of beef after aging. Usually 2 weeks.

3. Package weight. This weight also varies depending upon the cuts of meat the customer wants. A standing rib roast has bones and will weigh more, but a prime rib roast has the bones removed and will weigh less, but cost more because of the labor to remove the bones.

When I sell beef cows to a customer, I use the hanging weight because it is the most consistent. And most buy a side of beef.

If a sell cows at market, I Always have water available to animals before selling them because a US gallon of water weights 8 pounds. I have seen cows drink 10 gallon at time. Never let your cows become dehydrated before selling them.
80 pound fluctuations in weight x $1.11 per pound x 10 cows makes a difference.

There is a lot more to it than what I can type here.

Decided on the type of cow, I sell cross bred beef cows.

To start, Instead of breeding buy feeder calves weaned at 6 months of age. About 350 - 400 pounds. Market price applies to feeder calves. Usually the seller will have their vet vaccinate the animals and de-horned.

For grass fed beef be prepared to hold them 18 months to get to market weight . Have a pasture that can support the animal. My pasture will support 1 animal per acre. Out west in arid zones it might me 2-3 acres per animal. Over grazing is real, so pastures need to be rotated.

For grain fed hold them about 10-12 months and expect to pay about $400 in feed. A dry place to keep the feed where mice infestation is minimal.

Have a water supply that won’t freeze

holding them over the winter requires hay, because grass doesn’t grow well in the winter. Plan for 3 Five foot round bales per animal plus a way to move 1000 pound bales.

Cows are hardy animals and do not need a barn. They are capable of living on the range.
They are herd animals, avoid owning one as it might want to leave (through the fence, they never use the gate)to go find the herd.

Bale feeders are a must to keep the animals from shitting where they eat.

Fence to keep them in. If there is a way out a cow will find it. They have nothing else to do. And yes, the grass on the other side of the fence is always greener to a cow.

The voltage is 120V input and the output is 45V. But when Ive attempted to measure with a meter for amps It just OL's out. Supposedly the meter is hundreds of dollars with a 700Amp rating so no idea what it's amps is. Is 120/45 on a 20 amp breaker = 53 amps correct?

Looking over what the purpose of those shunts are and I think I read they are to reduce risk of arcing, realized I was making an arc welder and removed them completely. There's really no way to fit enough windings in my opinion to leave them in and use them to dial the current down. Since I think whatever amperage its producing at full bore is low enough to not warrant turning down.

My grills legs rotted so I was using it as a small fire place to get rid of sticks. But then the pan rotted out so I went to weld the legs to the lid and use that as a new pan but just blew through with the weld. In hindsight I should have warmed up the rod on a thicker gauge and could have probably knocked it out. But switched gears and I think this is a bit more sturdy.

Recently learned how to reliably get fishing line over a 100 ft tree limb with only a $20 target shooting crossbow from Dicks, and 4lb-rated fishing line. if I had a fly fishing reel it would be much easier to mount and rewind the line, but I make do, with the occasional tangle of course. The trick is to thread the line through the spool's far side, and hold the near side of the spool facing your target with your free hand, allowing for smooth dispersion of line without a more sophisticated mechanism. Tried a few other methods first, involving a slingshot with a spool mount that had a guide to keep the line from going off the spool, couldn't get that to work, so I bought the cheapest crossbow I could find and tried some desperate methods like throwing the spool in the air while shooting to no avail, until I realized how neatly and resistance-free the line slid when given a slight arch to wrap around the spool.
Using the fishing line, I pulled up twine which will hold up a length of wire for an experiment.

I bet you can use a pinhole in a Pringles can as a microscopic lens with some pretty good magnification. You'd need a way to adjust the length of it without letting light in to adjust the focus and it would work best if the inside was black.

1719311

>>1719305
There's no focus to adjust with pinholes since there's no lens. The hole needs to be sized correctly to correspond with the focal length. Otherwise, the circles-of-confusion will make the image blurrier than it should be. If you have a pinhole body long enough, you can use an iris that changes diameter so you can set the pinhole size to the focal length. That would allow for a properly "focused" zoom pinhole.

As for micro level photos using a pinhole, that would be rather difficult if not impossible. You can sorta get away with macro level photos, but they are terrible quality. Telephoto is of course very easy.

As mentioned above, if you use the Pringles can method of adjusting the zoom or use a bellows, you can make a very simple zoom pinhole by making a slider like this(pic). It is a strip of metal flashing with different sized pinholes that correspond with set focal lengths on a macro bellows. The whole thing is attached to a camera body cap.

>it would work best if the inside was black.
"Flocking" is the term for that. A cheap source is black craft foam sheets, but a better source is press-adhesive black velvet flocking for jewelry box liners. A roll of the jewelry box flocking goes a long ways in DIY applications.

>>1719311
>The hole needs to be sized correctly to correspond with the focal length.

Right, that's why you want it to be adjustable. That way you don't need to rework the hole every time you put it on your camera.

>>1719317
The best solution I found, for best IQ, was that slider in the image I posted. It isn't the perfect solution. With very long focal lengths, you can use an iris. For instance, a 565mm focal length will have an optimal pinhole size of 1mm. That's getting close to 2 feet long, but an iris for 1mm and larger is easy enough to make. The circles-of-confusion won't be perfect and it will be a bit blurrier because of that, but workable.

That slider is a garbage-ass solution, my dude. You could use a locknut and a threaded cap with your slider built in to make it fully adjustable with your slider switching between levels of magnification.

That's already a thing, fyi. Thingyfy sells them.

>>1719331
The problem with pinholes is that doing macro shots is nearly impossible, let alone doing micro shots. This is because each pinhole size and focal length has a minimum distance. So, the closer the subject gets to the pinhole the blurrier it gets when it reaches that minimum distance. Also, the light cone can't expand far enough to give you the macro or micro you want with short focal lengths since there's no lens to focus. You'll also end up with an image circle so small it'll be a dot in your photo. The best you can hope for is to use a telephoto pinhole and get something closer to it. It will be blurry, but also macro. Making a longer one will do micro, but it'll just be a blurry blob. Pic mostly related.

That means the length of your tube is too long. Properly adjusted pinhole lenses produce regular sized images that are proportionally dimmer. The only limit to your magnification is the brightness of the light you can put on your subject.

2 things slide. The "tube" slides to change the focal length and the metal strip with pinholes slides back and forth to change when the focal length is changed. I have a bag with several slider strips I can use. I don't use them much though. I much prefer fixed pinholes like this one.

>> No.1719355

Fixed pinholes are definitely easier. How are you making your pinholes? The quality of the pinhole has a large effect on the quality of the image.

You misunderstand. To "magnify" the the subject, you make the tube longer to spread the cone of light out. Here's an example. This is a 2.4:1 macro photo of a millimeter ruler. The tube for this pinhole is around 150mm long I think. That same pinhole, when used directly inside the camera as seen in >>1719352 can't hope to magnify like this.

>> No.1719360

It depends on the size required. Those invasive pinhole caps, with short focal length, require very tiny holes. That one has a pinhole diameter of 0.1708mm which is about 0.018mm from the optimal size for the focal length it is set at. For such a tiny pinhole, I stick a needle into some metal flashing or aluminum foil, only barely pricking the metal. I make a dozen pin pricks then sand off the back side and blow out the dust. Then I use a super macro lens to photograph them and measure them pixel by pixel.

For larger pinholes like 0.3mm I can simply use a drill bit. I actually have drills for 0.1mm and 0.2mm, but they are so effing tiny that they usually ship here pre-broken. lol

I think you are not grasping what is going on.

>> No.1719375

>>1719366
I think you're the one confused here. You're talking to one person and I've made pinhole microscopes before. You can get excellent magnification and image quality without needing anything crazy like a meter long tube. Sanding your holes might leave your edges ragged and punching through the flashing leaves angles that will likely interfere with your image. Try blacking them after to prevent reflecting superfluous light into the tube and help smooth the edges.

Don't have any pics but I just repaired my radiator by taking a little bit of plastic trim and plastic welding(soldering iron with spade bit) it in the crack. I did prep the crack site by drilling the ends and sanded the surface for better material adhesion. Next time if I had to do it again, I'd just by a small roll of nylon filament and drill a small hole on the soldering tip so I could feed the nylon through the hole and apply it to the surface. The way I did it was pretty messy but it cleaned up nice. Can't even tell something was done.

Also, a projection pinhole microscope also has nothing to do with this discussion since it is in reverse and won't be able to resolve anything on a microscopic level using even a FF D/SLR. 2. light table, work in progress, just needs a mirror on the back of the lighting panel to increase intensity and a more iridescent/translucent surface

3. cat tree, the foster kittens loved the shit out of this. The pole allows them to climb up to the top of the storage shelves where I have a spot set up for them, the step shelves behind the pole are to let them climb down or up, but they still call for me to come carry them down.

more stuff is in the works, been cutting up cardboard and doing shit since Halloween

What's a good way to lay out an apartment shop? I'm basically tripping over shit all the time but I do not want it to be this way. I'm using the "living room" which lacks a bunch of wall space. I have like 6 projects happening at any one time due to my poorfagness putting a hamper on what's needed to finish this or that, and I know some of this is workflow-related. I have 2 shitty workbenches that I intended to be temporary (sheet material on legs) but they have been that way for like a year+ now. For storage I have a couple dentist cabinets and one of those IKEA cubby shelves with a metal card-catalog-like drawer unit on top of it, and a few other storage pieces on top of those. And a couple shitty ladder-like shelves I built hastily and which mock me every time I look at them.
The one exterior wall I'm real wary about trying to drill into because it seems like plaster over concrete (building is 70 years old), and trying to find information on how to deal with this online has been a bitch.
I need to be able to work on bicycles (bike stand is collapsable but rarely is collapsed) as well as wood projects and occasional metal stuff. I have a workmate to bring certain things outside if they'll make a ton of dust or sparks.
This shit is a mess and every time I try to rearrange things to make it better, it gets worse all over again. Keeping my tools clean is a huge pain as the spot I built for cleaning them is now the main workbench, while the main workbench is a clutter of half-finished projects and random crap.
By all means I should have the ability to make whatever I want after hunting for things in thrift stores and garage sales for a while, but I lack practice because I keep making my work area horrendously inefficient to even walk thru.

that was a lot of words, I pretty much zoned out trying to read this shit

look just finish any open projects, if a mess is preventing you from working on shit then clean up

if you don't have a place to put things get more shelves or a mini storage

if you have difficulty staying on task get a script for adderall, or if you can't do that get some benzedrex and eat the cotton thing inside. It's foul but any port in a storm, be prepared to not sleep till like 2am though, also don't do this if you have high blood pressure

Simplest answer is to move into an actual house that has a garage.

It's not that I don't have a place to put most things but that I can't figure out how to actually organize things effectively within the space, so shit just sits out or next to each other.

After I have a hassle of pulling something out, I realize that it's not an effective way to store it, and then don't know where to put it. Plenty of drawers, bins. cases and toolboxes that are just empty because I have no idea what I should be putting in them, and lots that are just mostly-empty or stuffed with things in a haphazard way because I needed to get stuff "away."

I suppose part of the issue is that I don't just do 1 thing, and I have a wide variety of stuff, but in limited numbers of each. I don't keep a full socket, wrench, etc. set as I plain don't need them, nor any big stationary tools.
Like, I have a small number of cans of finishes/treatments - spray paint, wax, and so on. Less than 10, and they're usually on top of a box I don't open often. But I know this is a really shitty way to store them. So I look up how people store paint and such, and it's either some sort of gigantic cabinet full of full size paint cans and stains and etc., or a completely flimsy thing that takes up more space than the things are using already, while also eating my limited wall area or placing them where I don't need them to be like on the side of a workbench.

That is a plan for the future but not an immediate solution.

I suppose more specifically I was asking how to best make use of space when you lack much wall area to use. I have a workbench under the window, as the window faces north and I read that was the most effective for lighting - but after more reading since, some people say that you should have a workbench _not_ against a wall.

And, how the fuck do I put shelves or cabinets up on a plaster-over-concrete wall? I thought about putting furring strips up with tons of drywall screws so that I could mount a plywood facade over the plaster and not have to worry about this, but from what I looked into that's a horrific fire hazard.
I had issue mounting a small spice rack in my kitchen soon after moving in due to this. The drill bit I was using stopped past the plaster, and I had to replace one of the screws with a stubby thick one when it pulled out.
This would allow me to get some things out of the way, but I'm real leery about it being able to hold.

I heated an old toilet gasket and some leftover fence paint and sprayed it on. Good for 85 in a rain storm. I should have redone it but, maybe next year.

Rent a trencher for $400 at home depot, get a roll of pex tubing and fittings for $100 (assuming it's like residential 3/4"), abandon the old line in place, and hand dig out the connections at the meter pit and the house, otherwise rent a baby backhoe for $600. Not a very difficult diy.

Yeah. I'm aware of all the stages between paddock and plate, but surely that should even more reason to buy direct from the farmer. Any meat from the supermarket is 50/50 rotten when I buy it anyway.
