So I have this business idea and I wanna know what you guys think. I made this dnd screen a few years ago and Iv gotten alot of compliments how how it looks how it functions. Would this be something worth selling? It took me about 2 weeks to make but thats with a lot of trial and error. I believe if i made it again it would only take 2-3 days. What is everyone's opinion?

This will kill you. Assuming a $200 day rate, nobody's going to pay that much

you would be surprised what some nerds will pay for their D&D shit. There's a company out there that makes $10k tables specifically for D&D.

>>1668413
Start building stock. You won't be able to quit your day job making these alone but it'll be a good side business.

>> No.1668792

A lot of ones on the market already include little extras that may be worth adding. Like the inside being like a clipboard so you can hang tables and sheets, chalk or whiteboard etc. You may also want to do dice towers that match the DM screens to sell as sets. Do some research/window shopping so you can price your competitively and put a dollar amount on you time. It looks cool though OP, good job.

I agree iv seen these go for lucradive amounts.
>>1668792
Thank you, and i dont have it pictured but the inside is a plastic sleeve that allows you to put whatever information you want on it. The other side is a small magnet so you can clip stuff on.

this, so hard. As long as your quality is there, people will pay.

here's some stuff people pay for decent quality dnd shit:

$80 dice trays https://wyrmwoodgaming.com/product-category/products/dice-trays/
$25 for literally just felted boxes https://wyrmwoodgaming.com/product-category/products/herovault/
$100 for literally 7 pieces of stained wood https://wyrmwoodgaming.com/product-category/products/dice-towers/

I think people would easily pay $300-500 for your screen, op

> Start building stock.

As an etsy seller in the same product space as OP, i recommend against building stock. You might sell one or two of these per month if you're lucky, and a lot of people I meet spend all their time building up a big stock for their future etsy store, burn out, then never come back.

Take some sick pictures of the one you made, set processing time to 2 weeks, set quantity in stock on etsy to 1 or 2. Most of your time should be dedicated to improving your listing's pictures/description or spreading the word. Don't blow time building stock.

I net about $1000 in sales/month in the dungeons and dragons category on etsy, feel free to pop any questions you have op

Hello! Op here, so is starting a store with only 1 product a good idea or should my stock be higher? Should I make different versions of the product? What about creating a website or is it better to just stick with Etsy?

Thanks for the time

I started with 1 product and didn't have any problems. My 2nd and 3rd products were just "copies" of the original listing because I wanted to test which pictures were doing the best.

My first product was only like ~$15 though so your mileage may vary. Doesn't hurt to put the listing up at the very least. It costs like 20 cents to make a listing.

For different versions: it depends what you're trying to do. Making things "customizable" is a really good differentiator, and means you only need to make 1 or 2 extra stock of the item to demonstrate the customizability.

Doing different colors is a big rabbit hole though - I had a product that could come in ~10 different colors, so for photos I made a stock of 10 of the product, one in each color. To this day, I still have 6 of that original batch whose color literally never sold. Lesson learned: don't overdo it with stocking different customization options.

I'm just now starting to consider getting a shopify site. You can get pretty far on etsy alone, I know sellers who move $~10k/month on etsy and still don't have their own website. Self promotion via reddit, instagram, facebook, and twitter come way before a custom website comes.

No worries I appreciate your help, I will take some new images and post them on etsy and see the response. I was also thinking of doing a Kickstarter and seeing what extra funds i can get that arent out of pocket.

Sell them on etsy. You might not be rolling in the money, make a few extra bucks for other things.
