i have this old 70s organ (hammond piper II) that isnt worth anything at all. I want to cut off the stand and turn it into a table top piano (like how keyboards are). All thats wired in the base is the volume pedal and a 12" single speaker

i was thinking of cutting the wired pedal and turning it into a 1/4" jack plug so the pedal isnt dragging around the organ anymore once i cut the base. the organ has a 1/4" headphone jack so I dont really need to keep the 12" speaker but i was considering doing a push-terminal on the back so you can plug in any speaker.

is this a dumb idea? its not like i could sell it any real money and i'd like to keep it around but its clunky and heavy, and 99% of the electronics are in the keyboard section anyways.

U ever play organ? Thats not an organ.
>terminal block for any speaker
Depends on impedence. Wouldn't do it unless it's 8.
>1/4 jack on pedal
Inspect the cabling u may have more than 2 conductors. Some pedals have a switch at the limits.
>dumb
What monster table to plan on putting it of after you remove its stand? Or do u plan on suspending it from the ceiling?

To me it would be more fun turning into a MIDI device. Lots of guys did that.

>organ
just a term Hammond used back in the 1970s for these things
I'd have to open it and look inside at the wiring. dont know how the pedal is wired. basically i wanted to create a connection somehow so the pedal can be removed. doesnt have to be a 1/4" jack.
dont have a scehmatic on hand but i could buy one for $15 if I wanted.
i dont think its THAT heavy. most of the weight will be gone once you remove the whole lower half and 12" speaker

>I don't think it's that heavy

Take off the top cover and you'll find out. I bet that lower box is empty and the top half has steel plates in it, to stiffen up the frame. This is how my Clavinova is built. I suggest you inspect before you cut.

I'd stick a whole new syth unit into it and sell it for some major duckets anon. Ask in the synth general for ideas

Something to catch the keys and encode MIDI? I dunno how to be more specific besides shaming you to google MIDI but if you don't know what it is you won't use it...ever.

I know what MIDI is, but if the mod is just to turn it into a midi keyboard.. I already have a midi keyboard..with more keys than this. I thought the mods would be something more interesting

That's literally what guys do.

If u wanna have fun why not make it signal something (light? Door lock?) if you hit a certain chord or melody. Some Bruce Wayne batman shit.

For maximum /mu/ fun I'd add your other cheap midi controller above the keyboard you already have and get an old 1 or 2 octave pedalboard (some go for 20-50$ on ebay), MIDIfy the whole thing and add a basic diy organ bench. Or dunno, experimenting with effect pedals after the audio out to expand the sound bank if you're too lazy to get into DAWs.
Had so much fun doing that myself (got my hand on an old hammond years ago) that it got me to actually play the keyboard. I mean you already have a nice looking organ console, why not turning it into the full thing ? But then again, thats just me.

All of that is possible. Whether it's a dumb idea or not depends on how you value your own time.

Making the pedal unpluggable is just a matter of seeing how many wires the pedal has and wiring in whatever kind of plug you can find that has enough connections in it. It can be literally any kind of connector so long as it has enough contacts in it. Something cut from a car's wiring harness. A USB plug. A headphone jack. An RCA cable.
