Guy essentially rebuilds an entire classic sailing yacht. He gets a bunch of "volunteers" to help him out (it's free real estate).

my uncle had a DIY fishing pond boat he made with a plan kit and plywood from Sears back in the 1970's

that's my only know-how on DIY boats.

also though, how was it 1970's plywood was so vastly superior to modern plywood?
>1970 plywood, makes a boat! it's groovy!
>2019 plywood, guaranteed to break apart when wet

Most marine plywood is made from light weight woods that are not all that rot resistant, light weight is more important for modern construction methods and rot resistance is not a concern since it is primarily used as the core in grp hulls. The common old fir marine ply is still cheap and plentiful for those that want to build an old style ply boat, but the maintenance required to keep these boats long lasting is beyond most people theae days.

read a fucking book op
or literally think about it for a minute
having built a few
you don’t need plans
just a bunch of wood and screws and caulk

I'll try to seed on and off but I'm also doing some video encoding so might not be able to for long.

Go to your library and read through

"Devlin's Boatbuilding: How to Build Any Boat the Stitch-and-Glue-Way"

There are other books and guides, but that one is a classic and good starting point. After you've read it, Google stitch and glue forums, and you'll be treated to dozens at defunct web forums, and a handful of active ones. Read those. Build a shitty little dingy or canoe out of a few sheets of cheap thin plywood and the cheap polyester resin sold in the auto section of the home store. This is so you'll understand that it's like in reality, and can ask some good questions without being a moron.

Finally, decide if you really want to do it, or just buy and fix up a used boat (way cheaper)
