Is there a tool that you can use to hold nuts in place while you tighten or loosen a bolt when you can't reach both at the same time?

>> No.1631354

>>1631347
To get it going you can use a pry bar or hammer claw to pull back on the side you can reach. This will hold the nut on the back up against the object and give you enough resistance to try and get it somewhat tight.

But I’m curious to see the responses too.

Vice grips
Welder
I've wedged a wrench on one before.
As for welder you can weld an oblong piece of metal to the nut that'll spin against something stationary, or also weld a piece of metal hanger onto it if that'll help you get a hold on it.
Kinda depends on your specific need I suppose

>>1631378
Should add, if the spring type lock wash is not enough, you can just use a short coil spring as well, but they only work in larger sizes, in smaller sizes they just get crushed and deformed by the nut.

how do you turn the bolt's head when you hold the other end like that?

>> No.1631453

>>1631422
Point was to make a third point that you can hold on to, that you can hold/turn while holding/turning the nut, since I assume the head is behind some large panel if you can't reach both the nut and the bolt head at the same time.

personally i very rarely fuck with a bolt like that. either put a pair of visegrips on it or buck it off with a torch. or zipcut either in a die grinder or angle grinder. not worth the time spent unless theres no other option

Split lock washer on blind side, pull on bolt and hand tension until lock washer bites and tighten from there.

Or just use a pop rivet.

I've literally never had this problem before. If you tighten the nut enough with your fingers, friction will hold it in place as you tighten the bolt. If there isn't enough friction then you should be using a locking washer, because the bolt will just wiggle free sooner or later.

Have yet to use that Irwin Pliers Wrench but I gotta admit the Irwin Cobras seem to stand up well to the Knipex considering they cost 1/4 as much if you get the 2-pack.

>>1636334
His suggestion doesn’t even make sense though. I don’t think he read the OP stating that you can only reach one side of it. Or at least you could grab the exposed threads on the bolt but then you can only tighten it so far before the tool gets wedged in there and you’re still left with 1/2” more to tighten.

However for shit where you can reach the back side, the pliers wrench would be a good tool to hold the back nut. But that’s because it’s pretty much an improved crescent wrench.

The real cheap niggers would go with pic related. That 8” Irwin was still close to $25.

Like I said, I was impressed by the Irwin Cobras. If the pliers wrench comes as close to the Knipex as the Cobras were, I won’t hesitate to shill then to poorfags who don’t want to spend $50+ on a glorified adjustable wrench. If they absolutely suck, I’ll get the Knipex in 6” or 7” eventually and keep the Irwins in my work bag.

I mean they’re ugly as sin, even worse than the ugly Knipex. But as my Knipex are not coated in semen from some strange erotic fantasy for expensive German tools, I can’t quite follow you on the “feels”. Whatever visual things you want to nitpick at, there’s isn’t anything that really constitutes the price difference. Give them to some Ethiopian who has never been on the ToolGuyd fanpage on Reddit and he will struggle to tell you which it better.

The Kobalt ones though, they feel cheap with their stamped metal parts.

Fwiw this guy’s review, he gave a couple pairs to a career plumber who had never used that type of tool before. After some weeks or months, he actually preferred the Irwin over the Knipex because of the Irwin grip. After he got his hands on the comfort grip Knipex Cobras, he still couldn’t really say one was measurably better than the other.

At the same price, I would take the Knipex solely because German QC > Asian QC. But considering the prices, the Irwins might be a better purchase for lots of people.

When they had similar grips, he had a hard time deciding between the two. Except you know, mortal sins. But its all relative to how orthodox you are or are not.
The only good thing about Catholics is how flexible the church is.
They make shit up as they go.

The new pope doesnt fully condemn gays, believes on evolution (guided by god), believes in climate change, believes in contraceptives. All shit they changed their mind on from like 20 years ago.

You can't "believe in" climate change, you either believe it is real, or you don't. Climate change is not a religion.

Well it depends on how you define religion, doesn't it. If all you know is the Catholic Church is what a religion is, then obviously not. But if you define a religion as a template of beliefs then atheism would count. Now there are certain facts that have been measured by "climate scientists", some which can be shown untrustworthy, but others not as much. In addition to that, the subject of "climate change" also includes narratives to explain data, models to describe climate, and predictions of future conditions. All of this isn't science and can only be taken as true as an article of faith. So yes, there's a lot to disbelieve about "climate change". Also the insistence that someone else accepts something as "science" without questioning it is just as scientific as the churches stance on "geocentrism or we kill you".
