Hey /diy/

Where can I buy original name brand 18650 batteries for a good price? I need a couple of them for my projects.

amazon or ebay get panasonics. That what I use in my flashlights. They are protected.

Go to your local homeboy depot or blows and see if they will let you raid their tool battery disposal box

Ebay or a local vape shop

Local Lowe’s has tons of Craftsman batteries sitting in their return area, not sure what the deal is because they keep stacking up and I have a feeling it’s some issue with the disposal of them. I really want to ask if I can recycle them for em, I will only charge a small fee too,

Vape shops charge like $10 per cell from what I hear. You can go buy a Kobalt 24V battery from Lowe’s for $20 and get 6x 2000mAh cells. Not sure which brand but I know the Kobalt 1.5Ah come with green Samsung cells and the $20 HF Bauer batteries have 5x 1500mAh blue Samsungs.

Are those batteries protected?

What kind of thing do you need them for? I've been buying cells from one specific store on Aliexpress for about $2-$2.50 each, and they have the rated capacity, only that they are somewhat weaker on delivering high current compared to high quality, expensive cells.

No, most of the battery packs have a protection board built in to cover all 5 cells, others have the balancing and protection done by the tool and charger.

You can also get pic related, even cheaper if you order straight from China. Makes it real easy to charge whatever you’re building too.

Tool cells generally have a high C rating but a pretty low capacity. They're good for ebikes and shit but not power packs.

if you only need few of them ask around friends for old laptop/powertool batteries. theres always something in good condition to be found in those.

That totally depends on the pack. You can get 2500mAh+ cells in tool packs no problem.

I’m thinking about grabbing pic related to see if the balancing board will fit in that old XRP pack with the cells.

You are going about it the wrong way IMHO. Get an adapter and check this:
