The old brushed impact driver is a much better impact "driver" than the newer 3 speed brushless impact driver.

The new brushless one has hammer springs that are too strong before they break away to hit the anvil and they cam out on all Phillips fasteners. Even PH3 if you aren't extra careful.

Got a milwaukee M18 Fuel table saw and 10" miter saw to add to my collection. Beautiful pieces and they are pretty quiet. Not too heavy, but definitely not like some reviews where the guys are saying, "WOW OMG FEATHERWEIGHT LIKE HOLDING AIR!" Also got the accompanying stands and a bunch of new blades since I'm coming from a 12" makita miter saw that's older than I am. She's a great piece, but this one is probably half as loud and did some beautiful cuts even with a regular 40T freud on the tests I did. I'll probably put the makita in a fixed station later.

Table saw still scares the shit out of me as it's my first one, but I needed one to take lips off of some wood floor for a repair I'm doing and didn't want to fuck with the multi-tool trying to trim it by hand. Just read too many horror stories of people getting maimed or slapped in the face with kickback. I was running a board over it earlier and couldn't really feel anything and only slight noise change and was shitting myself wondering if it was even cutting. I didn't want to look either because that seemed like a retarded choice to make mid-cut. I'll get used to it I guess, just need to respect it.

I already want to get some smaller batteries though. They sell 3.0Ah Octane sets which are bluetooth like that Milwaukee stuff and supposed to run the Octane tools like a raped ape. There was also a sale with 3x2.0Ah regular batteries for $77, but thah shit flew and they were out of stock of that 3pk within a couple days. Maybe I can grab another tool with 2x1.5’s for slightly more than the batteries themselves.

I paid 30$ OOP roughly and got 30$ back in syw points on this. Feels sturdy and comfortable. Casters are cheap but I don't move it really. The opposite side is drilled out like a pegboard, drawers are ball bearing and theres a compartment under the seat too. Drawers and compartments are sized big enough to hold a lot of 9" long tools, so I've got my smaller hand planes and some drilling shit in them. metal sides means those free HF magnetic bowls will stick with just enough room, one each alternately above/below each drawer. can also hang clamps and shit off the handle.

Pretty neat, those would totally replace all my metric and imperial spanners. I especially love how they look like they wouldn't damage my fittings - even ones with chrome plating. That hinge bolt looks very sturdy like it would prevent unintentional shifting and the ratchet type principle allows quick and easy tightening and release of all bolted connections. Not only does that look like it could replace any adjustable spanner, but it also looks like it would be good for tightening locknuts, exerting pressure to activate the adhesive power of contact adhesives, edge breaking in tile work, snapping cable ties, utilisation as a small vice.

Kek, you funny. And if you have ever used impacts, you would know that these torque measurements are all over the place and often don’t mean shit in he real world. My buddy bitches and moans about how his stubby M18 1/2” is rated at >200ft-lbs but the thing won’t even remove lugs from his Golf. And other guns/drivers will get close to the max ratings, but only under ideal conditions and it takes 30 seconds of hammering to heat up the nut and finally get it to break.

So yes, I’m pleasantly suprised to see that the torque figures aren’t alluding to some “breakaway” number that doesn’t mean shit in the real world.

Meh, it works fine but it’s a couple years old so not the newest design. Probably not brushless, but marketing department at Milwaukee might be going for that bigger breakaway number on the specs for that stubby impact and real world it’s good for half that power. I think I’m going to be using my 12V impact for smaller stuff because this Ridgid 18V hits more like an impact wrench than a driver that goes “click-click-click”.

AvE fag goes on a rant about this and how they need to get a standard measuring system for these specs. Either way it makes me really want to get down on pic related. I would love to see them come out with a new “Octane” impact wrench.

Probably 100%. The mega2560 is a monster compared with UNO and Nano. I have one and haven't done much other than play with it; all my new projects use Nanos.

if your kit has anything that uses UART and you want to also use Serial() to allow your computer to communicate with the ardunio, then the Nano might be a pain since you will have to use software UART for the peripheral, in which case the Mega is very easy to use since it has 4 hardware UARTs.

There is a cobalt version of that set from HF for around $100 and I’m so fuckin confused reading the reviews. There’s a bunch of people like “I have been a machinist for 30 years and I bought this set for home and they’re nearly as good as my name brand ones at work” and then other people like “Half the bits were ground wrong, they aren’t straight, and the cobalt is a flaky coating that comes off after one use!”. Only thing I could think of is different suppliers, but it’s not like 6mos of crap reviews followed by a year of good and then 18mos of crap again.

Northern Tool has a couple big sets for $100-$200 that look real nice so maybe that will be good purchase one day.

>> No.1523703

>>1523675
The people in the reviews are absolutely fucking clueless.
The cheap black set is cheese grade "hss". Trash
The M2 set is at least a respectable tool steel grade in theory.
I had the set and the grinds were ALL wrong for every single number drill, and a lot of the bigger drills were ground poorly aswell. Also saw a lot of burrs that werent removed from the cutting edge that got titanium coated over. You flick it with your fingernail and the coating and burr fucking flew off.
Mediocre as fuck, but cheap if you arent worried about tolerances.

The harbor freight cobalt set is an M35 cobalt set.
M35 is a crappy ass grade of Cobalt steel, compared to the revered M42 Cobalt steel.

They would stay sharp longer than M2, but I would bet money they are going to have the same shitty tolerances and grinds that the M2 drills do. And they will be more brittle due to being stiffer.
The extra $50 spent isnt going to net you much.

Your best bet would be to just bite the bullet and buy the Norseman J-115 set on ebay for $200 from Bowers.

>> No.1523714

>>1523703
Yeah fuck that. If I’m paying $35 for a big set, I wouldn’t mind so much if a few are rough around the edges. If I’m paying nearly $150, I would want something that will do the job right. You would be better off spending that $150 on bits made of a lower grade steel that will make a proper hole (at least the first few uses), or spend another $100 and get a set that won’t fuck you over when you need a real precise hole.

And to anybody out there who is looking at these stubby Milwaukee adapters- be aware that they probably won’t lock into your impact driver. Agreed, they aren't as strong when exposed to first class lever forces as a mortise and tenon joint is, but they have greater shear force resistance (especially when combined with glue). In my case I plan to use them to hold two frames together where they will mostly experience compression forces and any shear forces will be shared across every pocket joint simultaneously. I'll be joining the frames on the orange joint in pic related, for example, but throughout the entire unit. Thoughts?

Lots of the reviews, the tools are given away by the company anyway. The last Knipex vs Irwin review I was reading, they got a few pairs for free from each company, and the writer gave a pair of each to plumber guy who checked back with him after 6 months.

But this is the internet so everybody wants a fuckin review the day the thing is released. Would be nice to see some of this shit for at least 100 days on a jobsite. Taiwanese ripoff under Russian brand, not sure if you can buy it outside of slavic states. Build quality is surprisingly good, unfortunately it's about $30 for 260mm model and you can buy 250mm knipex for $45 here, so not that much of a steal.

Welp, it sucks. But at least I didn’t spend $150 on a 6gal and hose and realize that sucks too. I won’t feel bad when I upgrade this POS, plus I can air up the tires on muh scooter without using a shitty 12V pump.

Also fuck walmart. I was about to go to Home Depot and spend twice as much so I didn’t have to deal with quite as much nog attitude (meaning at Home Depot I could ask for managers until I get Carlos or Jeff).

I saw those on sale at Sears too. I have a bunch of freecash bullshit offers so I keep waiting for something worthwhile to pop up but I don’t really want much from there besides the 26” tool chest middle box. I would probably buy it now for $90 if this pussy wasn’t so expensive.

I was gonna go with that new makita 10" with the front facing rails but it kept getting bad reviews. If you look closely in my pic you can see there's like a 6" deep shelf of drywall behind the cabinet carcass so that afforded me some extra room to make up for all that depth. (it's roughly 39" f to b when in its rearmost "chop" position).

Fuck... now I probably owe it to him to get his pressure washer working. Boomers have no patience to diagnose anything broken and they’re not going to pay $150 to fix something when they can replace it with brand new Chinese crap for $199, so they call me and see if I can’t fuck with it for an afternoon.

FWIW, anybody looking at that Ridgid combo kit still on sale, this impact driver is way too powerful to have as your main driver for putting in regular drywall screws and shit.

Drill goes HAM considering how compact it is. Way smaller than my ol’ DeWalt hammer drills. Haven’t hit any concrete or masonry with it yet though.
