Buy used quality table saw

so that means buy the table saw

it depends on what you're doing.

if you don't have a place to put a tablesaw it won't do you much good.
if you are a framer, a circular saw will be more useful.

>can only get one

Get the one you need or foresee yourself needing most based on your projects and other available tools. If all else is equal I'd lean towards the tablesaw if it's a quality model at a great price; it's hard to find a tablesaw that isn't obviously dogshit for under $200 but pretty much anything I've used a circsaw for or seen one used for could be done functionally whether it was a $300 skilsaw or a $30 menards house brand, and if you can afford a quality table saw now then you can probably afford to pick up a passable circsaw later at your leisure.

if they run on cable, get the table. circular saw you should save up to buy a proper battery powered one.

No, because a shitty table saw is not even worth owning

>> No.1515075

shouldn't be table vs circ' saw choice. both have specific areas they perform best in... get both and shine on diy

Get the circular saw, it's a classic piece of handy-man kit. Way more versatile than a shitty table saw.

What did you just say to me?

>> No.1515210

Get the cheapest circular saw you can. There is literally no such thing as a "too shitty" circular saw. Get a good table saw and a 10 dollar circular saw.

No kidding anon.

OP, get the table saw. You can stash it away when not needed or use it as a table if you're short on space

>> No.1515225

Look up the specific jobs that each saw is supposed to perform best on. Rather, what do YOU need it for? Here's a VERY generic guide that does not bring in specific cases:
>Get table saw if the cuts require better precision at the cost of mobility
>Get the circular saw if the cuts require better mobility at the cost of precision

Get the circular saw and make a table mount for it to use as a table saw. Use it for med-light duty.

have to disagree. I bought the cheapest skil saw i could find, base made out of stamped metal and the whole assembly would flex causing the blade angle to drift depending on how you put pressure on it, could never get straight cuts with it.

Ziptie the button down. Plug it into a extension cord with a switch.

that staged fake pic would be funny if the saw blade were turning and there was some dust flying from it.

If you can have only one, get the circular saw. A circular saw can do a lot of what the table saw can do using guides and jigs, however there's a lot you can do with a circular saw that you'd never be able to do with a table saw.

The toggle switch on that power strip.

>> No.1515411

Get the circular saw. Get an 8ft aluminum straight edge and some clamps. Use that as a guide and you can cut nearly anything you could on a table saw with exception of using a dado blade set.

Source: Am carpenter, rarely have access to a table saw on smaller jobs, often cut large things.

This, I use my levels as guides. If you want to be swanky then get a track saw.

Lots of things are impossible wiht a skilsaw, like changing a 2x2 into a 1.5x2.

I’ve got plans to buy a portable bandsaw and make a table for cuts like that. I just think a portable bandsaw would be money much better spent than anything table saw.

Not at the shop, but I have a flea market find that is basically an aluminum table for a circular saw. Just flip it over, bolt it in, and bingo, table saw.
Bought it just for shits and grins, but it turned out to work so well I put a cheap ass circular saw in it.
