Paint salesman here. Been selling ben Moore for almost five years now and just started working for a new company that sells California paints as well and I know nothing about it. I am curious on people's experience with it. What works well and what sucks?
Also general paint discussions welcome

You have to tell us your position with respect to the shot of black controversy.

That's actually hilarious. Had people ask for shit like that before but never just a shot of black

Is the "shot of black" thing just a meme or does it actually do anything? Fairly new to /diy/ and keep seeing in threads.

I does make plain white paint a bit brighter the contrast between the two makes the white pop out more and appear brighter. Most "superwhites" have literally a shot of black

well this thread went off the tracks fast.

You are dead wrong. a shot of black in ordinary white paint, like trim paint (exterior or interior), makes it cover better because the old trim paint is usually a bit dingy. Ordinary white paint actually does not cover well, meaning brush streaks will show, so making it just the tiniest bit grey makes it cover the old dingy paint a lot better.

paint that is labelled "ceiling white" does have some black or other pigment in it.

god I hate the word "pop", when referring to paint or whatever.

Hey anon I'm going to repaint the inside of a house I just bought soon (after remodelling). What kind of paint should I buy? I actually looked at Ben Moore, they quoted $48/gal. I figure I can beat them up on a price a bit. There are a few different qualities, right? What quality should I get?

Oh and the line was "Aura" that I got quoted.

The contractor, using his unspecified paint, said he'd paint the whole house (it's pretty small, under 2,000 square feet) for 4,000

We know who's been selling paint to the amateurs then. What kind of paint would be best for a dock?

I would be glad to paint your dock. Once I have boots on the ground I will scope it out, but please don't pester me for estimates and such. I will bill you when I am done.
