op here,
I used to carry a squirt as well, actually I had it on a retracting ID clip, beanered to my belt loop. That setup was PHENOMINAL! I could get at it really easy and literally let go when I was done. Unfortunately, the tool came apart from all the banging into things and I've yet to replace it.

Do you carry a tool belt or work wear with big pockets?
Do you want to carry it even when not at work?

Full sized tools got plenty of tools which you will never use, like Saw, File and additional knife. They also weight a lot. ~300g might not seem like much, but when 200g of that weight comes from tools which you use once a year, you should consider another multi-tool.
I carry a S.O.G Powerplier @159g in my tool pockets and I feel that i certainly wouldn't bother carrying it if it was any heavier.

If they're rigid, definitely, no feedback after all.

But I'd rather much have something with flex, i.e. spring steel, than an 1/8" thick piece of steel that just so happens to mimic the shape of a tension wrench.

Falle's tension wrenches are by far the best concept I've seen produced thus far. Theoretically, the best place to position a tension wrench is in the center of the cylinder, which happens to be the top end of the plug. The Falle design allows for this without the possibility of a pick knocking it loose when being withdrawn from the plug. They're too fucking expensive though.

I use HPC's Dial Round tension wrench with great success.

On a similar note, I got into a discussion earlier today abut Colombia River knives (CRKT) like in OPs post.

I prefer SOG because they use AUS8 steel in almost all their folders, where CRKT uses a lot of 420 stainless and other mid-grade steels.

I'm told that CRKT now has a new metalurgist coming over from Kershaw and they're using higher grade steels in even their lower end knives. Anybody know much about this? Google isn't telling me much.

Also, how can a guy research the grades/HRC of proprietary steels that knife companies sometimes use?

I usually keep nothing in my pockets. Everything is my belt pouches. I actually had to take everything out to remember all I was keeping in there. Here is a picture and a list
01: Headphones. Crap, but the good ones tore up during Christmas.
02: AC to USB adapter. Super useful.
03: Nintendo DS Lite to original DS power adapter.
04: PSP and Camera USB cable.
05: USB charge cable for DS Lite
06: USB charge cable for my Cell Phone
06: Two numbers sixes? Yeah these are just matches. Got a bunch when I worked at a hotel. They have a cab number on them, which has been useful.
07: Swiss Army Knife. Required carry for all McGuyver wannabees.
08: Army Surplus Grenade pouch. Usually hold the camera.
09: Zippo. Was my Grandpas. Never got the chance to ask how it got dented. Has his old construction business name one it.
10: Latex gloves. When you don't want to leave prints. Or just don't want to get your hands dirty.
11: Tape Measure. Crappy one I got from Lowes for free when I worked there.
12: Fire starter. Flint and Magnesium block.
13: Crap Knife. Doesn't hold an edge, but is legal to carry. Mostly used with the flint for fire starting.
14: Hard to see this number. It's the green USB SD card reader. Holding a 8 gig card.

Continued:

15: 4 gig SD card.
16: Bluetooth earpiece for cell phone. Gift from parents but rarely used. Lives in the pouch, not on my ear.
16: What is it with the number six and my repeating it? This is some fine, tasty pipe tobacco from a local smoke shop.
17: My pipe. Not my only one, but definitely my favorite.
18: Main belt pouch. Was a gift, gets worn everywhere. Holds most of this shite.
19: Folding Knife, Fork, and Spoon set.
20: A pen. Nothing special.
21: Pencil stub. Lost the eraser recently.
22: Glass cutter. Christmas present. Still trying to make a proper wine bottle drinking glass.
23: Whetstone.
24: Fast sharpener. Does horrible things to knives, but useful for keeping an edge on Crap Knife.
25: Vice Grip. Found it in a parking lot. Made itself fairly useful.
26: Hairbrush with several extra hair ties on it. I have long hair, this is a must carry.
27: Pipe tool. Crappy thing, but my nice one went missing at a party.
28: Leather Man Wave. The god of multi tools.
29: Keys. Blue thing is the RFID tag that gets my in my local HackSpace.
30: Crappy Balisong. Not Sharpened. Not a weapon. Not a tool. Just a skill toy to occupy my hands when bored.
31: Small Padlock. Surprisingly useful.
Not Pictured: Clip with ID and Debit card, Cell Phone, Camera that took the picture.

That sort of behavior is why my gear is constantly changing. I take things out to use them or something and then end up never getting back in. And then I pick up something useful, or interesting and add it in. Or I just used something and it get stuck in a pack cause I nowhere else to put it.

I used to carry steel chopsticks, but I lost those somewhere. Think I left them at a restaurant. Left my lock-picks at a friend's place after I got him in after he lost his keys. My good knife has been at my parents place since Christmas.

Now that I think about it, I also have a small notpad that is supposed to go in my pack. I wonder where that went.

Whats bothering you on the carry out, though? I work a maintenance and janitorial job at lowes.
The gloves are when I have to clean stuff. I keep a bunch in my work vest as well.
The vice grips, tape measure, padlock, and multitool all get used at work often.
I use the fork and spoon set on my lunch break daily.
The whet stone and fast sharpener get used less often, but I like having them.
The tobacco, pipe, matches, lighter, and pipe tool is pretty obvious. I smoke.
The headphones, PSP charger, and DS charger is because I bus to work, so I have lots of time on the commute to game. I usually carry either my PSP or DS and charge them at work.
Fire starter block is unlikely to ever be used, but I like having it.
SD card is for the camera.
Glass cutter is pretty useless, since I've never needed it out and about, but it doesn't take up much space.
Butterfly knife is just a toy. Something to play with when bored.

Big mess of keys with 2 keychain flashlights, Small screwdriver thing, little Swiss army knife, Tritium glow thing and a waterproof little lighter.
Water proof flashlight with white/blue/red/infrared because I fucking love flashlights.
Regular lighter because why the hell not.
Cheapo Winchester knife I bought trying to fix a different knife but kept because it's actually alright.
Leatherman Squirt with wire strippers (without a doubt, the most use thing I've ever bought, ever. I use them every freaking day.)
Wallet, with a 4 gig tiny usb stick, Fresnel lens, and spare car key (as well as money, cards ID and all that crap.
Not pictured: Droid, which i used to take the (crappy) picture.
And I seriously carry that stuff every day, even to work, because I feel it's the minimum I would want in an emergency survival situation. Also because it's stuff to fiddle around with when I'm bored.

mostly countycomm stuff:
industrial grade tin
micro widgy prybar
soled with clip
small screwdrivers
pocket straight razor
split pea lighter
sere pocket saw
air craft cable
p-51 can opener
screw keys
&
utili-key 6-in-1 tool which I moved over to another keychain since it's pretty redundant in the tin.

Why is everyone carrying two knives? How many days of your month do guys really feel that the blade on your multi-tool/smaller blade is insufficient?
