Hi I'd like to get into making my own 64 bit cpu's with breadboards. How do I achieve 3Ghz? How do I make it programmable? How do I add a l3 cache? Also how do i do the first thing?

Read feynmans lectures on computation, you can learn the basic building blocks there, but a modern cpu is pretty advanced stuff, you wont be able to make it. You can make a basic microcontroller. See diy cpu on youtube

Can't I use a 3d printer to print my circuits? Why can't I make a modern cpu?

On the off-chance you're not shitposting, the first 64-bit computer contained 170000 transistors. The best smartphones contain more than 4 billion transistors, each one with dimensions on the order of 10 nanometres. Otherwise, >>1347114.

64 bits is unfeasible on bread boards. Even if you use ribbon cables for the bus, it's going to get out of hand real quick. Plus you are likely to run into power issues trying to drive so many chips from certain outputs.

Start with the SAP (Simple As Possible) 8 bit design. It's from a textbook from the 70's. It's 4 bit memory addressing and 4 bit opcodes turing complete.

Pic related is my work in progress SAP with added subtraction and conditional jump on carry

>Some friendly suggestions for posting:
>- First ask Google, then ask /diy/. Your question will probably be better received if you do so.
>- List available resources (tools, materials, budget, time, etc.)
>- Try to use pictures and explain the goal, if possible
>- Be patient, this is a slow board; your thread will be around for days.
>- Share your results! /diy/ loves to see problems solved and projects completed!
