Ask someone who works in the backroom (warehouse/delivery) of a furniture store anything. I know it's not exactly DIY related but I figured this is the best place to post.

>> No.1341589

do you do anything creative or useful with the free packing material -or- why do you keep a warehouse job that denies you the only perk of a warehouse job.

I sell stuff on Ebay off and on, so I take some of it for that. Otherwise we reuse most of the bubble wrap and recycle the plastic and styrofoam.

>>1341595
Stupidest thing is probably when we deliver someone's new bed, and they still have their old bed piled with bed linens, clothes, etc. We don't touch that shit so we have to get them to take it off. It usually goes hand in hand with the people's house being an absolute disaster.
As for strangest? We were once doing some service work on a couch in a customer's home when the parents and daughter started getting into it over the daughter's boyfriend/fiance. They then asked us what she should do about him. I said "follow what her heart tells her" as some dumb cop-out answer and the mom gives me this "are you shitting me face".

>>1341604
I unload our freight trucks on occasion, set up furniture to go out on the sales floor and for next day's deliveries. I also deliver a few times a week as well.

Kek. Betting money op agrees. Any ikea tier bullshit you have to rig together or any solid wood nice furniture. The shit is heavy as fuck

Heaviest is definitely Broyhill bedroom pieces, dressers and chests, as well as high-end king size mattresses. I rolled my ankle on a 250 lb mattress about a month ago, and earlier this winter a guy tore a back muscle moving a chest upstairs. Some high end dressers and chests literaly have cement in the bottom to keep them weighted down.

I would never buy a product from Ashley, other than a sofa or armchair. I don;t think I've ever seen a piece of furniture from Ashley that was made from real solid wood. Their products are essentially equal with what Walmart sells.

Good idea
When the customer comes back, youll unload his car and have to reload it with another headboard.

>Why not lesr anything you can about everything. Never know when it will come in handy

Because there are people like you out there giving advice and "knowledge"

What exactly am I supposed to take from your post, other than you are retarded?

Not only that, you need to be able to lift around 400lbs. Also your dick must be at least 10 inches long to get past the fat barrier.

This is the reason I created this thread, so that people may realize that most furniture store products are terrible quality. Most anything you can DIY yourself is going to be built far better than what you can buy in the store.

Impact driver and a drill, mainly using T-25, T-30, Phillips, and square bits. Various hand tools, circular saws, etc. If we're doing service work we use some specialized tools for pulling fabric staples, along with air nailers and staple guns. Nothing too crazy
