1227914 No.1227914 [Reply] [Original]

48 hours after moving into my apartment I started a grease fire while frying chicken. I put it out with a plate and noticed the next day there was a big ass soot stain on the ceiling. I got some magic erasers and scrubbed the shit out of it which got rid of the soot but left weird residue. So far I've gotten a majority of it out with a sponge and rubbing alcohol. The wall looks like garbage still and the alcohol doesn't seem to be doing much anymore other than taking paint off as I scrub. I've tried Awesome cleaner which is dollar store stuff, baking powder, water, and Lysol spray but nothing else has worked. How should I clean this up?

Honestly my next step might be to just repaint. The paint on the wall is pretty thin already, I see gray underneath

Close up on what I'm dealing with

>> No.1227922

bleach is a miracle product that removes stains and whitens everything it touches. use a sponge mop to apply. use like 2 parts bleach per 10 parts water. you'll prob have to do the whole ceiling coz otherwise you'll have beautiful streaks of pure white.

I would be more inclined to go with sugar soap, which will break down any oils as well as clear the spot. Be ready to wash the entire roof though OP, you gunna have one clean spot thats gunna stick out like dogs balls.

If a wall has been fucked up and you've scrubbed it with bleach and it's still stained, you need to paint it.

Once you fix that, you'll have to repaint.

coz it works miracles. can make a dingy old (white) wall look like it's been painted recently.

>> No.1228161

Bleach won't remove grease residue.
You need to use sugar soap, it's designed for cleaning walls prior to painting and it works wonders.

And if your scrubbing has fucked the paint finish then you'll need to scrub the entire ceiling with sugar soap anyway before repainting. Do a pro's job of it

Nope. In the original thread a paint store employee said that if a moron asked for a shot of black he'd pretend to do it but just give the guy white paint. So you can go ask for it, but you're not going to get it. If you really want grey paint you can get that by picking a color from the swatches.

Are you stupid?
White paint doesn't cover shit
Black paint covers everything
Grey is in-between.
You add a tiny amount of black and with no reference comparison it looks white but covers better.
Why do you think there are so many kinds of white? Eggshell, Egyptian cotton, bone white, oatmeal, macaroon cream etc etc etc etc
You think you can tell the fucking difference walking between two rooms unless they were touching no you can't
The colour isn't to make it coloured it's to make it cover whatever shit was there before

especially with flat paint. some eggshell finishes are sorta washable if you don't scrub too much. they actually make some washable flat paints but if you actually have to scrub much at all it leaves a shiny place.

just don't fall for that shot of black meme. It's an inside joke that the nerds like.

I like the sound of it much better than "a shot of black".

nothing racist, I never go to /pol/ anyway. blue is a happy color, unlike black which is just darkness and evil. well actually blue might be a sad and depressed color, but it's still a color that looks nice on old cars.

That's fine for step two. First step is to clean the soot and grease off first. Paint don't stick well to sooty, greasy surfaces.
