Usually you can find them on government auctions, if you can find a shipping company close to you than you can contact them to see about purchasing one that they will be recycling for a low price. possibly look into major recycling centers as well, they might have one there that you could snag.

Everyone who wants to bury a container should do so! Follow your dreams and ignore the haters. Your initiative will be rewarded with success!

Numerous containers survived direct hits from 30mm A-10 "Warthog" cannon during the Iraq war. The springy corrugations dissipate energy and the projos bounce off. The immortal Corten steel shells last centuries even without paint, which is only decorative. The US Navy has a fleet of containers at the bottom of the Marianas trench where they dock submarines made from containers for underwater replenishment. Hawaii successfully used lava flow to encase containers to make attractive tourist lodges. Transatmospheric scramjet powered containers have been developed into launch platforms for smaller containers to be used in the post-Brexit EU space containerstation. North Korea replaced their old dug shelters under mountains with containers painted like mountains. (The insides are painted with cute anime characters to boost morale.) Elon Musk prototyped an electric container to replace the Tesla since the container is more aesthetically appealing than the car and has a lot more battery room. The mayor of Detroit has decided to replace his decaying city with containers. The old buildings will be demolished and the rubble hauled off in other containers, loaded onto rafts made of containers, and shipped to China via the St. Laurence seaway where it will be ground up and the metal residue used to make more containers. US Navy SEALS stealthily infiltrate enemy ports using containers cunningly disguised as containers. Israel is solving the Palestinian problem by storing them in containers. (Germany tried to solve the Jewish problem using wooden freight cars, but the container hadn't been invented yet.) Donald Trumps border wall will be easily affordable if built from containers. Any Beaners who slip in by other routes can be detained in containers then trucked to Beanland where containers will be donated as housing.

You just buy a metric standard shipping container and then find an older imperial standard one. The imperial ones are just a few inches larger in every dimension. Their durability is highly dependent on load and moisture exposure and age of the container. They aren't as awesome as you think they are. Their awesomeness is logistics awesomeness and "convenient steel SHEET METAL shell" awesomeness.

I have three, two as a shop, and the post you referenced was my sarcastic response to endless container threads. Burial is retarded, but if you want something you can bury, buy a steam cleaned railcar tank hull and have that delivered to your site then have a cutting torch and welding party. Of course you won't do that, but a tank hull (frequently buried by farmers as a very large culvert over which they drive machinery and trucks) handles external loads better and you can use the bottom as a bilge if you live where it rains because you will need some sort of sump and pump arrangement.

Dear stupid motherfuckers. You can have the mancave experience in an ISO container aboveground because THEY LOOK THE SAME FROM THE INSIDE EITHER WAY.

They also function as well as a fallout (not blast, dumbass!) shelter either way. If you are near a nuke target sufficient to NEED a blast shelter, you should fucking move instead.

Berms. What are berms? Well, apparently only G.I.s know what berms do, but they can protect your container against blast and tornado hazards without burying the fucking container. You can do earth by dozer, Hesco (deteriorates over time) or gabions or tire walls packed with sand or combinations of both. For you paranoid fucks who don't believe in mobility and want to defend your fort instead, berms etc provide fighting positions you don't get with burial. If you can't defend your box, some fellow like me will block the exits then pour bleach and ammonia down the vents until you die and then claim your rape dungeon for themselves.

Why don't you buy a welder and make the structure you want yourself? Lazy cunt. If you seriously want a thing you make shit happen. You can use containers as MODULES, holy fuck!

Buy x number of containers and splice them on the spot. Fucking done. Steel isn't terribly expensive and metal suppliers deliver to jobsites every day.

Get a portable welding machine unless you were smart enough to have shore power available. I used a suitcase feeder and FCAW for the long runs. The usual grinders, saws, consumables and PPE are affordable.

Custom containers exist. Sea Box and other makers will produce them for you if you are rich.

I haven't finished my copy yet, but an air jack like this is fucking ideal for lifting containers so you can place pipe or other friction-reducing objects underneath to winch it into places you can't get to with a trailer. You can buy air jacks but big rig air springs are much less expensive. I got the same style Goodyear air spring for 150 via Ebay.

http://www.airsprings.cc/Goodyear/3B15-375.pdf

and will fab the base and top in the next couple weeks. Top will have a channel to locate on the lower edge of containers. The hinge arrangement this gent made is ingenious:

A container is not a catering truck though you could install catering guts inside one fairly easily. You could buy a used catering trailer or truck too.

It will be expensive. It must pass inspection. Of course like most containerthread posters you didn't research shit.

Consider a glory hole shipping container instead. You can fit one with restroom partition walls and a cash register. Your assistant can collect the pfennigs while you move from knob to knob. You'll make money and get a hot meal.
