I am having trouble opening (or more like pulling off) the head of this 6130 Milwaukee Grinder to repair it.

It's having issues where it turns off when held in certain angles, along with a sound of metal clanking.

I removed the 4 screws from the face along with the screws that hold it to the plastic frame. I tried pulling it as most grinder heads come off to show the armature assembly, but it doesnt work. It can rotate around after the screws are off, but I need it completely off.

Anyone have any tips?

open up the plastic halves where the motor is since there might be a metal lip to hold it together

Can you post a few more pictures?
I'm only familiar with ripping open B&D and Dewalt tools.

If I'm understanding correctly you're probably thinking of just pulling off the front metal part.

Depending on the model specifics you're not going to get that part off without pulling out the Rotor, so I'd suggest you start by opening up the rear end and taking out the brushes.

After that remove the 4 screws from the head and you should be able to pull it off along with the rotor.

This is where im at. Supposibly I am suppose to remove this nut above the gear, but it's been a stalemate between using different wrenches and vicegrips/needlenose pliers trying to get opposite traction to dislodge this nut.

Basically what you want to do is get the brushes out and pull that entire assembly with the rotor.
That little nut is reverse threaded, so lefty loosey doesn't apply here.
The way we got it off in the Dewalt service was by carefully mounting the rotor into a vice and then getting at the nut.
The Gear then just slides off and you're free to pull out the rotor.

>get the brushes out

What op discribes is consistent with worn brushes.

The ereplacementparts site has excellent Milwaukee diagrams.

Zoom the fuck out of this image after opening it in a new tab:

You can remove Part 21 without fighting with the aluminum gearbox.

Clean your commutator and some new brushes should make your grinder happy again.

A Cratex rubber abrasive stick is fucking wonderful for that job, but in a pinch you can take a rubber eraser and use it to hold some light emery cloth against the commutator.

You'll want the gearbox back together so you can spin the motor to clean the commutator by manually spinning a grinding wheels.

I love repairing used power tools. It gets me many excellent tools for very little money. I look for tools with tile grout all over them because tile work fuck brushes at low operating hours. Cheap to buy, easy to fix, I get angle grinders for less than Harbor Freight prices.

Always remove the minimum parts needed to fix the tool. Since your gearbox is apart, check for missing gear teeth, put in a bit of ordinary wheel bearing grease, and reassemble.

If your commutator is missing chunks it will need replacement. Post clear pics of any damage if you have questions.

Did you already remove the brushes?

Just buy a new one

Brushes are cheap as fuck and field stripping power tools is worth learning. I got a Kett shear (not junk) for five dollars at auction because the cord was missing. Shears nicely now. :)

Yeah, but a Milwaukee is a shit brand despite the price

The "heavy duty" version of the harbor freight angle grinder is on par with a Milwaukee

On top of that harbor freight is starting to UL list their newer tools while Milwaukee as they are dropping in quality like a stone have begun Intertek listing their tools instead

>le milwaukee is bad meme

We get it, your father worked minimum wage in a milwaukee factory and is mad they outsourced.
Buy Dewalt because somehow having a mexican put together chinese parts is better than a chinaman putting them together
