then you have to hand fit everything because every gap is different and all existing planks are approx as straight as man who wears tight jeans and manbun, but is good practice, builds character

if you must pound each plank in with a mallet and then it fits tight and then you nail it, you are now doing 'ok'

convenience of premade narrow shelves inside of wall but probably they get walled over

assembly is done via dowel peg into uprights which are anchored into concrete properly, so entire wall can be taken out in one piece or section by section when time for proper garage door or wall

blue indicates dowels

you will notice that as each unit is mounted, it blocks over other dowels, so order must be followed if i take out one at a time

also some are impossible to dowel, used L brackets

used T15 star tip screws for maximum frustration of future home buyers or grandchildren if i never take this down

>all neighbors members of Home Owners Association, my house predates it

>Dad buys house at auction super cheap
>Was the demo house for a subdivision that went under
>Single story 4 bedroom 3 bath completely finished inside but no landscaping at all
>Marble & wood floors, granite counters, solar water heater and solar panels (this was back in the late 90s so super fancy)
>all the way at the back of the cul de sack, strait drive right up to the 3 car garage
>lot is wider in the rear than in the front, super huge back yard
>empty lots sell to another developer who divides the lots again and makes them smaller
>builds 2 story McMansions on them with barely any yard at all
>only 3 house styles, breaks up the tedium with different paint and roof shingle styles
>HoA formed. $120 a month for garbage pickup and 'street maintenance' (IE nothing)
>We pay $18 a month for garbage and zero for street maintenance as our section of 'street' is shared by 5 homes
>Dad never puts in any grass in the front of the house, Mom turns it into raised garden beds and vegetable garden
>Old lime green 1970s GMC Motorhome parked in driveway
>HoA puts a nastygram in the mailbox, Dad ignores it
>3 more come over the next month, all into the circular file
>Finally we get a knock on the door at 6:30 at night while we are eating dinner
>'President' and 'vice president' of HoA, they want to talk about the fines we haven't been paying and the front yard/driveway
>Dad invites them in, sits them down at the table, give me my plate and lets me eat while watching TV in the living room
>I eavesdrop, they say we have to plant 'approved' plants in the front yard and can't have a motor home parked in the driveway

>Also that he owes 6 months in unpaid dues.
>Dad reiterates that he is 'not a part of the HoA' and that the rules do not apply to him
>They say he can't just leave the HoA because he doesn't like it
>He says that the house was built and sold to him in 1997, the HoA was not formed until 1999 when the new subdivision was created
>His home predates subdivision, he was not party to the creation of the HoA, therefor he is exempt
>VP goes home, gets HoA agreement, checkes applicable addresses
>Applies to houses numbered 201 through 236
>Our house is 237 as its the very end of the street

HOAs exist for a reason. Basically, that the developer was stingy.

If a subdivision is built in a way that does not follow typical municipal street and building-layout codes, then there must be a way to pay for the maintenance that must be done, since no city will annex the roads and take over that task. HOAs are allowed to exist for this reason.

The reason that developers will build developments that are basically sub-standard is that they can save a lot of money by trimming these details.

HOA's are kinda bullshit IMO because they tie a private-party restriction to a piece of property that automatically transfers with a sale to another person, and even if that person isn't aware of it.
It's a lot like if you bought a used car and went driving on Sunday and got a ticket--because the guy you bought it from agreed with the car manufacturer that the car would never be driven on Sundays.

The whole concept of "private property" is based on the concept that if you own property then you get to determine its use, and no other private party has any say in that matter.
HOAs aren't the only example of private property rights being gutted in the US, but they are a very common one.

I'm kinda curious, if your dad sells the place to anyone else, would they still be excluded from the HOA too?

I'd also warn you that you are seriously shitting up this house.
It's kinda funny to piss off the HOA but it's still not a great idea. I dunno where you are but I would hope it's only a temporary measure.

If dad has to suddenly sell this place, that pallet wall is seriously going to hit him in the pocketbook. Most capable buyers would see that, wonder what else is fucked up, and immediately turn and walk away.

"He has no plans to sell?"
Yep, mebbe.
The big reason I've seen this is health issues.
Some heath issue develops and suddenly [someone] can't climb stairs, suddenly [someone] thinks its a good idea to live closer to a hospital. Suddenly [someone] needs a lot of money for medical bills....
Shit happens.

>>1019843
>while demoing old shelves in garage, found this fuckery, clever slanted shelves for storage of things
It almost looks like stairs? or they recycled a stepladder? .... :o

>> No.1023232

>>1023214

Nah, they just did a "clever" way to have angled shelves, but instead of having solid uprights and angled cleats to hold the shelf sections, the builder made the uprights out of multiple angle cut sections, so he could lay continuous angled shelves on them.

Kinda clever, but was a bitch to disassemble, and was clearly more work than just doing it right.

There are two houses with two anons in this thread. One has a temporary wall built out of pallet wood where the garage door once was, to keep out roving mexicans.

The other is lime green and keeps out roving HOA inspectors.
