Makita has really great weird shit like pic related but for everyday ownership of quality tools Milwaukee is the way to go.

get their middle-of-the-road brushless set, its built well enough for everyday use but wont break the bank. there are heavier duty sets out there as well as the sub-compact black drills but this set has all the power that you need and has 4.0ah batteries to run beffier tools like saws and grinders as needed.

if you want to go exotic Makita makes a 4-mode Hybrid Brushless Impact Hammer Drill/Driver, which has the functions of both in one tool. not cheap but convenient when you can go in carrying one tool instead of a whole bag of drills and batteries.

>I think I may be better suited for a driver, or maybe a set containing both a drill and driver.

Ryobi peasants dont have a brushless hybrid impact/hammer-drill driver.

black tools are their sub-compact line, they are compact brushless tools that compete with Milwaukee's M12 Fuel tools but still use 18v LXT batteries.

that is unless you live in Japan where Makita makes tools in a number of different colors (black, green, pink, dark red, brown, gold, etc) for shits and giggles.

Makita Japan makes their tools in a bunch of different colors, the brand-color-loyalty issue isnt really a thing there.

hex-drive drill bits are pretty common now, regular keyless chucks bite down on them better than a standard round drill bit and plenty of people just throw their bits in impact drivers for quick jobs.

hell Makita makes a brushless hybrid impact hammer drill driver that does the job of both tools but only uses 1/4 hex bits.

ive always been fascinated by all the different colors Makita tools come in over in Japan. in the US tool colors are a huge part of brand marketing, and its all about "team red" or "team yellow" but Makita Japan doesnt give a fuck and puts out their tools in 8 different colors for shits and giggles.

i still want one of these black brushless hybrid impact hammer drill/drivers but im not paying $350+shipping on ebay for one from Japanese scalpers.
