I'm just going to point out that if you're planning on leaching water through wood ashes remember the end result is actually potassium hydroxide (hence the name potash) not (pure sodium hydroxide) although you can still get saponification to work the results tend to not be very inconsistent which is important if you are wanting to do this as a business. If you're wanting to make Lye I'm afraid you'll have to delve into the chloralkali process. its not to hard to do you'll need a divided tank for the salt brine solution, a salt bridge, a car battery charger and a couple carbon electrodes out of some batteries. just be sure and keep the positive and negative sides of your tank isolated or you'll just end up with a bunch of bleach which is what happened to me the first time I gave making lye for soap a try.
