the older generation of Craftsmen cordless tools with the black bodies were just rebranded Ryobi's made by TTI's subsidiary One World Industries; the current red models you see sold at Lowes now are made by Stanley Black and Decker and are built to be a sort of budget version of Dewalt tools.

And Vermont American, which has always been a middling tool company.

Honestly, though, I'm not working a job site with a circular saw and a painkiller addiction. I use shop tools. It is not uncommon to have to spring $100+ for a good blade new. That is why I will gladly drop the princely sum of $1.00 plus tax when I see an old cabinet saw blade at my local ReStore or something. I will happily buy a 10 or 12 inch Kromedge (or similar) blade and spend 20 minutes getting a good edge on the teeth rather than drop $140 for a Freud or Forrest or something. I don't do it for a living so I can't justify that price just to fuck around making bookshelves and bed frames.

>they have a lot more than just Stanley/Black & Decker
Yeah, dude, we know. Hell, B&D bought DeWalt in 1960. It is not exactly news.

Stanley, Black & Decker, DeWalt, and Porter-Cable are all owned by the same company. Anytime there is a tool argument thread around here people will praise one brand and shit on another in the same breath without realizing that they are often made by the same company.

I just bought a house and need a miter saw for some projects and trim work. I already have a table saw so I don't need a big 12" slider.

People suggested the Ryobi 10" slider but after checking it out in person it's just too flexy and cheap feeling. Ridgid stopped making their 10" slider.

What do you think of the 8.5" sliders like the Bosch CM8s or Makita in the same size?

>Irwin is a Lowes brand
Haha, no. Irwin has been around since the 19th century. They are part of Stanley Black & Decker these days. Picture related, upper left corner.

Kobalt is the Lowes house brand. You can buy Irwin in many, many places. Example:

Irwin pliers sold at Home Depot.

So what store brand offers the best quality/price on ratchet/wrench sets? Husky, Kobalt, or Harbor Freight?
