You might want, or indeed need, a converter box or some kind of hardware, or at least special cables, to take the output from a computer and hook it up to a television.

Assuming you're not using a brand new "HD" type television with HDMI hardware, and a brand new graphics card with the same, I imagine you'll have to go from VGA / DVI output to component / SCART input somehow.
