This is said boat. Was always a bitch to start it because the starter ring gear was worn out and this would mean that the starter wouldnt often engage proper in to the gear.
it would be quite a bitch to replace it (have to move the 2 tonne engine) so that wasnt happening.
Got it to start by pulling out the pinion and push it in the ring gear. Then hold it in place by putting the lip of a beverage can between the gear and the starter itself. This way it would be already engaged in the proper way. and the lip would be just flung away.

Nowadays I just have a small tug with a old fordson tractor engine of 70hp. Use a illegal (because no atis) uv-5r on it for VHF.
