Whilst remixing can be done with only a mastered track you will find that it is infinitely easier when you use stems. Stems are basically the different instruments and vocals of a song recorded into separate files that will allow you more creative freedom as you are remixing. There isn't really a surefire way to get a hold of stems at any given time but I'd recommend checking remixcomps.com regularly to get a hold of good stems.

if you are a lazy piece of shit then take them up
the only real hard part is tuning the damn things and having the strength to play them
