Hi /diy/ers

I would like to build an alarm clock that has a separate off button. I'm a very heavy sleeper and was alarmed (pun intended) to find that there is no such device on the market, it does not exist, anywhere. It seems my only option is to build the device myself.

Basically it's just an alarm clock but to turn it off you must push the button which is separate from the device itself and you can have the button in another room. It must be battery powered so i can't unplug the alarm to stop the ringing.

I have never built anything before so i have no idea where to start, but some guy at work told me i could use a cherry pie to achieve this. I don't know if that's a good idea or not.

Can /diy/ help me achieve my dream of building an alarm clock with a separate off button ?
