When i first started I was breaking a blade every minute or so, now however i can use the same blade until its more or less bereft of teeth. The easiest way to tell is when the wood begins to burn. I do cut out more complex pieces, like heraldic figures, like this yellow clock made for a friend....and i only charged him £20. Most of the clocks are 350mm x 300mm or 400mm dia.
