it was back in 1992/93, definitely wasnt a baby monitor or another walkie, who ever it was i could tell it was a professional radio operator by the way they were speaking, it wasnt just someone fucking about, as the other anon said they were probably replying to me morse coding s.o.s, i remember my grandad grabbed the set off me to reply everything was ok, the signal was clearly very weak as there was a lot of background noise and i couldn't make it out, the local airfield at the time was just for light aircraft to pull gliders up, so i could have been talking to someone in the air either taking off or landing, it had the same kind of sound as a radio u would hear in an aircraft, very noisy.

i remember them saying it was air related, just not sure if it was airtower or aircraft, i didnt think a kids toy could interact with professional radio equipment.

also this reminded me i had an old guitar amp that picked up some french radio, think it was the one in pic, my friends were messing with it, they had it on full volume, the guitar lead i had at the time was one of those coiled ones, im guessing it acted like an antenna(wasnt plugged into guitar), the voices were barely audible but distinctly french, it sounded important like naval ships relaying info back and forth, not just two guys having a banter.
from where we were on the south coast uk, its 70miles straight across to the french coast.

i remember one of those friends tried it out with his guitar amp, i think he opened his up plugged in the guitar lead and with the other end he started poking components till he picked something up.

how is it possible to pick up transmissions with a guitar amp do they have components inside that can receive signals? we though it was strange it was french not english if it was a french ship in the english channel they would be at least 35miles out. someone please enlighten me.
