Synthetic absorbs less moisture and wicks it away, drying faster. Whereas organic absorbs like crazy, keeping you wet, which is not what you want.

My full loadout: All depending on what approach I would be taking, basically just my backpack and the contents.

Minimalist:
>A nice daypack with support, I use the REI Traverse 30 but I'm sure there are cheaper ones out there

Shelter:
>Basically what I said here: >>320516. You can do wonders to protect yourself from the elements with the foliage around you and a few garbage bags plus string/cord

Fire:
>A few bic lighters. Super light and low maintenance.
>Some weatherproof matches
>Magnesium fire starter

Food and Water:
>I would bring at least 2 1/2 liters (one water bladder full, one water bottle)
>Small pot (and I mean small) for boiling water/making food
>Ramen. Protein bars. Other light, non-perishables. I'm not too picky
>A lightweight/compact bowl (or you could just use the pot)
>Spork
>Backpacking stove and fuel, look into MSR
A note about water: Conserve it like a mother fucker until you find a reliable source

Other gear:
>Compact sleeping bag
>Small fixed blade knife
>Some duct tape or electrical tape
>Pipe and tobacco
>Compact first aid kit
>Hand/feet warmer
>Maybe a hand saw

Things I forgot to mention in the clothing section:
>Gloves, warm ones.
>Sunglasses, you never know
