Already asked on the "new" thread but didn't get a response so might as well ask here too.
I need a zhu zhu pet's microcontroller for a personal project. I found a zhu zhu pet breakdown article on Nuts & Volts, but it seems to be a different model than mine - there was no speaker, there were buttons on the front and back of the body and the blob of acrylic was much thinner. The article insisted it's an IC under that acrylic but when I melted it down last night I just found a ruined COB.
Is the blob in this picture hiding an IC? Is it even possible to know at a glance?
If he guy was lying and didn't remove the IC himself and all zhu zhus have COBs, is there a way to remove and repurpose them anyway?

Also here's the article in case that's relevant:

I need a functioning zhu zhu pet's microcontroller for a project. I've never messed with a COB before, however.
Is it possible to remove and reuse a COB like an ordinary IC? I might be searching the wrong terms but I can't find anything online about reusing the things, just cracking them open to look at the insides but I imagine that kills the chip.
