HF is becoming a different store than it used to be. The past couple years they have been releasing more new stuff every month that is the similar in quality to the Home Depot stuff and the prices aren’t much better. They stll have their dirt cheap Chinesium Chicago Electric $19 angle grinders, but that stuff is becoming a smaller percentage of their total inventory.

After spending hours and hours in HF stores over the past couple years, I have come to the conclusion that there’s only a couple dozen things they sell that are worth buying from that place like the $70 jack and $150 tool cart and $15 breaker bar, and maybe a few specialty automtive tools that are crappy but the DIY guy will probably only use the tool for one job so buying a shop level tool isn’t worth the investment. The real cheap Chinesium hand tools aren’t worth wasting the money on if you expect any use out of them, the consumables are about the same, and both can often be found at Walmart for the same or less. The better tiers of hand tools are about the same cost as better known and trusted brands from Home Depot or Lowe’s, and the power tools and equipment are about the same except you don’t have to pay an extra $40 to get a warranty that will last past the second use.
