The valve that diverts the water up to the shower is leaking. What style is it? Is it integrated in the faucet or is it part of the plumbing on the wall?

If it's like this, it's probably pretty easy to fix, you just need to buy a replacement faucet from the hardware store and unscrew the existing one and put this back on. You'll need Teflon tape and a universal faucet kit. It'll have enough parts to figure out how to replace it. (It depends on how it's plumbed behind the wall) The most annoying thing to happen will be unscrewing or loosening the pipe in the wall and getting that back in the hole. The worst thing that will happen will be if you don't put enough tape on correctly and then it leaks very slowly in the wall and you get dry rot.
