Kinda depends what you're into OP. I got myself into electroacoustic stuff awhile back. I always look for old radios, record players, CB radios, old phones/intercoms, and organs. Organs are something people practically give away because they're completely obsolete and super heavy. But man I would keep scooping them up if I had the room.

Also you can make really cool mics and stuff from old speakers and phones and junk.

Pic related - this old thing was shorted-out and basically infixable, so I gutted it and turned it into a bitchin' Leslie amp.

Instead of throwing it away/burning/buring the damn thing, I tore apart a totally fucked-up shorted-out transistor Hammond (the kind with built-in 12" woofer and a rotating Leslie drum) and turned it into a Leslie cabinet for which to do my bidding >:]

I'm not a hardcore /diy/er but pic related I guess. It's not like I built it from scratch, just sorta... chopped and repurposed it. Came out great though!

I'm planning making a dodecahedron loudspeaker soon but it's gonna take a lot of moneyfunds so it has to wait

Cool stuff OP! I wouldn't have thought the Dremel bit would cut a sawblade like that. I'll have to give it a try one of these days.

this is an older project but i haven't done anything too spectacular in awhile

well i um, i chopped an old shorted-out transistor Hammond and made it into a Leslie speaker cabinet... which is controlled by either a stompbox or a switch

didn't "make" it so much as "repurpose" it i suppose

Chopped an old shorted-out transistor Hammond into a Leslie with a stompbox to control the speeds.

The only big thing left is to get rid of the pesky reciever/amp and get a proper 200w amp. I have a 1U graphic EQ for it and need a 1U amp, they'll both fit perfectly at the bottom where the current reciever is sitting.

She's beautiful though.

That's petty cool OP! I'm sure it takes lots of specialised training and an apprenticeship with an established luthier, but cool career choice!

I myself am not all that much of a wizard but I did chop down an old transistor hammond to make a 2-speed leslie cab (fast, slow, stop) controlled by a stompbox.

The cab also has a 12" whizzer speaker so I have that crossed over as a sub (usually) and the leslie drum as the mid/tweeter. Beautiful on a strat! And of course on my hammond as well...
