If the bidirectional biquad works 'just so', the unidirectional will work well. Always check the polarization. Most access points or routers are vertically polarized. At 2.4 GHz you want a short, low-loss cable. Since your 'free WiFi' is in a fixed direction you could also try a narrow beam 'cantenna' which is cheap and easy to build.
