anyone who asks a question that can be answered by googling their question, which is most of the questions here.

that 99% of the "people" coming to this board aren't here to /diy/ they are here to troll and most often to ask for detailed step by step hand holding instructions to do the simplest things.

that they don't even bother using google, and 90% of the answers to their question can be found by googling their question verbatim.

That they think they can do or build anything without putting in any time, effort, or money.

Often when they do make something and post it, it's either a troll or so badly done as to be so much cringe.

That people will come up with the dumbest ideas, and when you politely (yes politely) inform them of such they double down, dig in, and insist on being and doing as much dumb as can possibly be dumb.

That professed "experts" will appear in threads and shit all over good ideas (when they do appear) and proceed to bully relentlessly about some minor point because they "know" that it can't be done, and disappear when it can and does get done.

That when you post something you did (no matter how well done) you will be shit on unmercifully.

That "reddit spacing" was around before reddit was created and for some reason it enrages people when you do it. Also the people who bitch about it don't actually know what it is.

That dumb questions do exist and are even dumber than you can possibly imagine.

That no matter how much I try, and against my better judgement I still end up helping some poor shlub who can't google to save his life. because I am bored.

I've been tryin' to help anons on this board for more than 5 years. this is the chain of events I see at least 3 times a month:

OP gets a wild hair up his ass to do something (he has no skills, money, or tools).
OP posts a vague and badly worded description in new thread.
Anons see post and are intrigued but doubtful that OP has any ability.
Anons ask for more info.
OP gives terse responses or one word answers.
Anons ask for more info.
OP rages that no one is helping him, or at any rightly deserved criticism.
Anons alternate between asking for more info and taking the piss out of OP.
OP now has 2 choices stop being a dick and answer the questions with useful info or going apeshit and throwing a tantrum.
Anons help OP or figuratively beat the shit out of him.

/diy/ General FAQ

DIY means Do It Yourself

What is doing it yourself? it means that if you don't know what, where, when, or how first go to google then youtube THEN ask here.
Almost anything you want to know how to do is on youtube now.

Typical threads found on /diy/ and what they are:

>Do it for me thread
any thread where the person did not first go to google or youtube or even try to figure out how to do something. A typical DIFM thread looks like:
I want to X how do I do it, give me detailed plans, I have no tools, no money, and I have never done anything even remotely like it before.
congratulations neither did any of us until we tried. We read books, took classes, talked to people, and more recently googled and looked it up on youtube, and sometimes we just messed with it until it worked So can you. We can help you when you get stuck or if your google fu is not good but don't expect a complete set of plans and instructions on how to build an interocitor.
>I have some random thing I found what do I do with it?
You have just told us you have no imagination. We don't know what skills you have, how much money, and anything else you might need to do anything with your 1938 henway. We know what we would do with it. most likely throw it away.
>shipping containers
useful for shipping things in (I know right?), storing things, and maybe an above ground really hot work shop.
They are not an underground survival shelter and will collapse if you try to use them that way.
>Broken head phones
this is something that most of us figured out how to fix when we were around 12 so figure it out yourself snowflake.
>posts that ramble or say something totally useless and give no information.
>example: so here's the deal product x is crappy and breaks. I got the warranty on it and kept the receipt. My new one does X and Y.
