Soap Thread!

>I'm a total convert desu. I'll never buy that store-bought mess again. It's full of nonsense to make the soap more "appealing" to the buyer and then cut with fillers on top of things so they can make more money while using less actual soap per bar.

Everything about making your batches comes down to your own taste. Want a softer bar with really slippery and sudsy lather? use unsaturated fats high in oleic acid. Just be prepared to cure those bars for half a year. Want a harder bar of soap with a milkier lather of microscopic bubbles? Use a mostly saturated fat. You can make all kinds of different lathers by controlling the amounts of various fatty acids that go into the bar. This is not a good pic but it give a good visual.

My personal favorite recipe right now results in a bar that is hard and creates a lather that is milky, not very slippery and has no suds at all. Also the bar itself dries very quickly after being wet, yet has a softening/moisturizing effect on the skin. Also it's unscented but smells really good, like a white chocolate oatmeal.

Some things I had to learn the hard way:
Temperature matters. Cold should be kept cold and hot should be kept hot. Going in between results in weirdness in the color and consistency.
Lye is static prone as a mother fuck. Don't get the lye in flake form because it will clump up, stick to plastic and glass and jump particles all over the place when it's covered in static. Use a stainless steel spoon to scoop it out and also make sure the dish you're spooning it into is also stainless steel.
Silicon block molds with wooden cradles will insulate the mold during saponification. This is not something you want when using a cold process. Metal wire cradles will not insulate.
online Lye calculators are sometimes inconsistent with SAP values, sometimes even from their own lists.
Never use a dye if you want to add color. Only use natural pigments.
Try to cut soap when it's still reasonably soft.

Soap is always better than no soap. Plus killing all the bacteria can do more harm.

Fuck you, you trash person, I was the only one actually making soap in the other thread. I make hot process soaps and full saponification prevents rancidity. You also tried to tell me I was retarded for 5% superfatting, then another guy comes in with an info graph, everyone thanks him likes he's a God, and all of those recipes are at minimum 5% superfatting. Thanks for solidifying why we do not have a soap making general, you chode dick mother fucker.

Here's the fucking info graph. Any chance we can get a mod on this board once and a while to ban the blatant trolls preventing others from effectively communicating with others trying to improve their skills and knowledge?

Not at all, I actually started soapmaking after reading a thread on /diy/. I'm happy to give back.
The recipe I use is in pic related, the bar from 27th of december.
From there you can expand as you want, different essential oils, low amount of added value fats like shea or cocoa butter, mineral oxide for the color. I've even seen people use fruit and vegetable juice as a colorant.

How can you trip yourself "Soap Dad" if you haven't even made soap before? Soap enthusiast at best.

That happened to me with a couple of threads. I actually ordered about 500 bucks worth of stuff to get started on soaping. I want to make this a real business. Already have several people chomping at the bit to try out my products.

Going to post what the OP from the last soap thread posted...it's his soaping experiments.
