this isn't true. people ferment beer and cider and mead in plastic __food safe__ containers all the time.

gotcha.

my first batch didn't sit too long before consuming and it still tasted nice. but this one is bigger and i'll be racking some for a while.

my goal is minimal elbow grease. so i'm going soak them in water for a few hours so the label should peel mostly off. then use lacquer thinner and a coarse rag to rub off the glue.

fresh homebrew thread

how long do i wait after bubbles stop before racking cider?
how do i get labels off wine/beer bottles for re-use?
is there any way to get quality cider for less than about $5 per gallon?

you can get some kind of conformal coating that comes in a spray can. that seems to do jack shit, from what i've seen, at least as far as preventing sparks.

you can coat it in epoxy as long as heat isn't an issue.

if going the epoxy route, i'd get a 2 part one cuz they don't come with the added fillers 'n shit that the 1 part sticks have.

fuck you. don't send this there.
OP:
you'll probably want to build a smokehouse iirc that's how the pros do it.

ok. i'll be recorking it then. i want to age some/gift some. once i take out the crap will it stop carbonating?

how bad? like, exploding bottles of cider bad? i'll be sealing it with wax in a few days, will that help?

>>89319
why should i strain it? i know it has all the yeast 'n shit in it, but it tastes better in there. thanks for the flame test hint, i'll look into it.

>>89322
so i dun goofed by putting the yeast in the bottles?

i've also noticed that the brew settles really fast. this glass has been sitting no more than 10 minutes when the pic is taken.

here i'm simmering part of my second batch.

i piplined my operation so i bottled my first batch and started the second all at the same time. cheers to my two asian friends for making it all happen.

i've noticed that in the few ours since i've bottled the batch that there is already some carbonation going on. very exciting!

i also invested in some iodine to sanitize. really quick/easy and cheap. here one of my two asian helpers is demonstrating how to dump iodine out of a wine bottle.

first 3 attempts. really made me wish i went with Anon's advice to get a bench corker. that particular item is def getting on my xmas list.

i don't have a hydrometer but i'm going to guestimate that the ABV is ~15. probs between 15 and 18 but i don't know for sure.

can you guess which was skimmed off the top lmao.

there is a huge difference in both taste and smell between these two glasses. the right tastes/smells much more like cider; the left tastes/smells/looks like a dry white wine.

i got one of those polish hand corkers and this is the first bottling attempt. it took 3 or 4 corks to nail the technique.
>wet cork
>press IN you sonofabitch
i didn't break a bottle though cuz i had a friend hold the bottle while i corked it.

babbys first /diy/

i got the idea to make hard cider here on like day 2, and it's been fermenting ever since. today i bottled it :3

thanks /diy/ you're the best!

bottle on the far right was skimmed off the top. 2nd to right has been shaken to see the sediment, the other two are just separated out.
