I know you live in NY or NJ by the way your food looks and your style of plate and fork. Literally getting the raw ingredients from farmers markets and discount stores like Aldi will cut your shopping bill down significantly and it'll allow you to actually control the flavor of the food you're eating. Instead of store bought nonsense on burger night get some actual ground beef for the patty. Put an indent in the middle when you go to cook it so you don't get a bulge in the middle. Flip often. When it's almost done put the cheese on and put a lid on the pan with a small splash of water to melt it quickly. Toast the buns in the oven for a few minutes with a little butter for a big flavor boost. Since you'll have the oven on, start to make some potato wedges by cutting up a potato and coating it with oil, salt, pepper, and paprika before you cook the burger patties. This is one example of how to have the food not be so sad. All the foods you like with barely any effort can be made way better. If time is a big issue for both of you then do crockpot meals or braised dishes. It'll cook for like 12 hours hands off and you'll be greeted by some good stuff at the end of a hard day
