Looks good, Borneo! Love the cured yolks.
I make a garlic custard every once in awhile, and I'm always looking for different ways to dress it up/serve it, and I think I'm going to try the cured yolks with it next time. I think they'd really compliment it.

Heheh, I forgot to say that this starts my weekend of asian food binging. Made Thai tonight, tomorrow I'm making crispy fried pork belly bahn mi for lunch and for dinner I'm going out for Japanese; Sunday I'm going to make Laksa. I've been craving a lot of asian foods lately.

IDK. On one hand, cumulative average makes everything "fair" down to the last vote, BUT, I really think the final round being sudden death is more exciting and brings out a more competitive edge in the final four, and more people might vote.

Okay, well, I'm just going to post the ideas I've managed to write down so far, because I don't have time tonight for any more and I'm afraid this thread is going to drop off before I make a more comprehensive list. ANYWAY, these were just brainstorming ideas, they may or may not be appealing, IDK, If I have more ideas later, I'll email you, if you still have the same email address! :)

Famous Chef Round: Pick (or it could be a rolling round) a famous chef, living or dead, and recreate one of their signature dishes (or just one of their really good dishes). This could offer an opportunity to show off some technique, plus peak and interest in a classical chef, or could be used to troll the challenge with dishes made by Food Network idiots, you know….

Roll for Cuisine Round: as implied, roll for a set list of cuisines, for example, Peruvian, Ethiopian, Burmese, Lithuanian, Transylvanian, Guatemalan, etc.etc. etc.

Barbecue Round, with the stipulation that cooking it inside the house is fine and won’t be penalized, since a lot of people don’t have outdoor bbq situations.

Children’s Party Round: Make a creative spread for a children’s party (I actually think this could be a chance to be very creative and deceptively more difficult than people would think) and it’s a silly theme to throw in there.

Surf and Turf Round (self explanatory) make your best surf and turf dish

/ck/ Potluck Round: make a creative dish to bring to a /ck/ potluck

The Blob Round (lol, working title): A round where your dish must include one of the following: jello, aspic, or agar agar.

Food in the Arts Round: make a dish based on a food or meal referenced in either a book, a movie, or an album (this could be narrowed down to just one if necessary), plus explain why you chose that particular book/album/movie

>more simple rounds that could be part of the first few open rounds:
Breakfast
Fish and Seafood
Meatloaf Round
Appetizer Round
Rice (or Bean) Round

I'm just bumping this because I'm working on a list of ideas for rounds, but I can't sit down and get it together yet, because I'm in the middle of both a family crisis and having to do a bunch of baking. So anyway....bump.

Hey BubbleBurst!
I was just sitting here making out my grocery list for all the baking I have to do this week (to take to friends and coworkers), and saw your thread!
Just like Borneo >>6061512 (Hi Borneo!!) I'd be happy to offer a prize for one or two rounds this year.
I will not be participating as a contestant, though, I think I've had a good run, and I think I ought to let it go, lol. But, I may cook along with some of the challenges, if I have time, just for shits and giggles.
I'll brainstorm some ideas for rounds, and post them later if this thread is still around.

Yeah, like Bubble said, don't sweat it. Just post when you have time. No worries!

Yeah, I think I know what your first round is, :) But yeah, that would be very helpful to know, so I can try and pick appropriate prizes to at least try and match the themes. And to have a head start, it takes awhile to sift through stuff and find the prizes too. But this will be fun, and we always need more OC. I hope a lot of people enter this time.

Ugh, know that feeling. I'm not as far north as you, but the light difference is already going strong. Not looking forward to the days where it gets dark at 4:30. What time does the sun set there in Nov/Dec?

That looks ridiculously lovely, Ambi. I'd love to have that for breakfast, sounds absolutely delicious.

Hey Squee! Nice to see you doin' what you do! I'll try and post something this week, if I have some time. It'll be pretty simple, though. Can't wait to see what everyone makes! Give me a day or two and I'll see if I can come up with a prize for this round :)

That's cool, Rei, getting to see the progression like that. Nice! All your dishes looked lovely and delicious, I'd forgotten about that chocolate ravioli from last year, YUM.

LOL, Borneo.
Yeah, I think, for me, it would depend on what the theme was. I usually tend to go overboard on themes I really like, but I can see me just throwing something together too.

>>5429108
Yeah, thanks for hosting this, Squee, and like I said, I'll kick in prizes for at least some of the rounds, but we can talk more about that later.

I'm listening to the radio as I cook, and this song came on, and it just made me think of us here, IDK why, but what the fuck, here's the lyrics anyway, while I wait for my next step. Enjoy! (or not, whatever....lol)

Well I started out down a dirty road
Started out all alone
And the sun went down as I crossed the hill
And the town lit up, the world got still

I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings
Coming down is the hardest thing

Well the good ol' days may not return
And the rocks might melt and the sea may burn

I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings
Coming down is the hardest thing

Well some say life will beat you down
Break your heart, steal your crown
So I've started out for God knows where
I guess I'll know when I get there

I'm learning to fly, around the clouds,
But what goes up must come down

I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings
Coming down is the hardest thing

(btw this Tom Petty)

Just proof that I actually am cooking now. its still going to be several hours, though.

Holy shit, I hate my boss. Anyway, very, very, late, I'm starting on mine now. I'll post the final pics as soon as I'm done, and then I'll post the verticals as soon as I'm done making them. Fucking hell, as if I needed any more set backs. Anyway, I'm heading into the kitchen now.

>> No.5425010 [View]

Update: I'm going to be cooking soon, but I've had to go do some stuff for work this morning, so I'm running late. Don't give up on me, it's a-comin'.

Oh you totally should, it's insanely decadent. Then, you can also save the leftover "salmon butter" to cook with later. I just freeze it, it freezes really well.

>> No.5423197 [View]

>>5423165
Aw, thanks. It's okay though. There was only one part of my dish that needed the oven, and I think I've found an...interesting...way around it, lol. We'll see how it turns out :)

>> No.5423091 [View]

That picture looks delicious! I've been craving some salmon recently, I may have to try your method!

>> No.5423084 [View]

That's one reason why I personally loved steamed salmon. Keeps all the moisture in, and you can use different liquids to steam it for different flavors, plus add lemon slices, lime slices, onion, herbs, etc.
I've also butter poached salmon, which makes it absolutely fucking melt in your mouth, but it's also not very fucking healthy, so I've only done that twice, when I really needed to have super velvety salmon.
