What style of gin do you like?

I'm a fan of barrel-aged and Old Tom gins - so Barr Hill's Tom Cat is my personal favorite.
If you're in NYC, Queens Courage is an Old Tom definitely worth seeking out.
Smooth Ambler's Barrel-Aged is also a home run.

For cocktails, Beefeater is the go-to. Gin with backbone.
I'm a bit "meh" on an organic Hawaiian Ginger gin that was gifted to me. Expensive but boring.

when I was dirt-poor in NYC, I always found it easier (and much more exciting) to eat out vs cooking. Everything costs more here - the exception is ethnic food. we have amazing, affordable, ethnic food - dig up some of Seitsema's articles from VV and Eater.
You'll have all kinds of Central American and African foods up by you, but there's literally the entire world just a subway ride away.

You probably shouldn't "store" beer for future parties. Also, you're likely under 23, so no one's expecting much from you. Learn how to make a couple of easy but cool cocktails with one liquor vs buying an arbitrary collection. Master one, and then expand.

Cedric Bouchard is the big one - find a bottle of his Infloresence, it'll blow you away.

Among the others, Marie Courtin, Laherte Freres, Moncuit, Larmandier are personal favorites. They bring in some serious champagne, and when I see their logo on the back of an unknown bottle, it's an easy-buy.

Yep, that's where mine came from. Easy-drinking, big fruit rose champagne. Didn't give it much thought - just a good background wine.
Picked it up solely because I thought that Polaner was the importer, and Polaner brings in most of my favorite champagnes. According to the bottle, this is now handled by Touton though.

OP - have you considered barrel-aged gins?
There are dozens out there now, and they're really the perfect transition. I love Smooth Ambler, and Barr Hill's Tom Cat, but any decent shop should have a selection to choose from.

Zalto glasses are ~$60/each, but they're honestly worth the money if you ever drink good wine. I have a few of their universal glasses, and they're amazing. It's like that first HD TV that you bought - everything is heightened in these. Surprisingly durable as well for something that feels so delicate.

I don't allow guests to use my Zaltos though - for everyone else, they're using "Riedel Ouverture Magnum Red Wine Glass" -- currently an 8pk is available on Amazon for $60. They're perfectly fine everyday glasses.

When we have parties, we just walk over to a thrift shop and buy wineglasses. In good 'hoods, you'll always find more than decent glasses for $1 or $2.
