Just going to clarify a few things here
The literal first thing she does is pull the brain out of the cuttlefish, see she reaches in around the mouth and removes something, that's the beak and removing it almost always rips out the brain as well, even when it doesn't the damage will wipe out all brain function instant. This is probably the most humane way anything can die.
Also people get fucking sqeemish when they see anything move after death but autonomic function =/= life and it certainly doesn't resemble anything we would recognise as suffering.

I disagree a bit, the locals are a little hamstrung by their poverty but there is still a huge spread. "working food" (food you grab on your day-to-day) is a huge deal in every town and city and Dabbawallas that deliver a variety of lunchboxes are ubiquitous.
