You should have tried the Classic tiri panettone. I always disliked candide fruit in panettone, but that one made me a believer. Its incredibile the difference in qualit between shitty candide fruit and the good one.

I work in a kitchen assembly place where customers come in and prep their own meals. Anyway, I hear this kind of shit often

>"Is this [cayenne pepper, red chili flakes, monterrey jack cheese] spicy? I don't think my kids will like it"

Keyword is "think". In general, there's other foods that people omit from their dishes because they think their kids won't like it.

Anyhoo, how were you introduced to spicy foods, and do you like it?

I really enjoy it. When I was little, I remember seeing my parents eating something different and I would ask them if I can try it-- they wouldn't make a fuss saying that something was hot.

My family isn't fat, but i'm starting to worry about them eating out very frequently.

I agree about cooking up a big meal! It used to be so for me to feed my family and relatives. When I moved out, I had to stop doing that because my boyfriend and I couldn't finish it all-- I had to cut the portions in half so we didn't waste any left overs.

I dont know, i'm just feeling really bummed that I don't enjoy something that I really once used to.

I'm visiting family out of state and I looked forward to eatin' good. I was in for a shocker; My mom doesn't cook her authentic food anymore. I asked my eldest sibling and dad if anyone cook, and their response was "not anymore." I guess my mom fell out of her "mother role" ever since I moved out.

The freezer was full of trader joe's frozen shit. I asked what do they eat, and they just said they out out 80% of the time.

I really looked forward to having my first bite of my mom's comfort food... I have yet to do so and it's been three days so far. Feels fucking bad man.

When I lived here I used to cook for my family as well, and they really enjoyed it at the time. But I guess I should start cooking again for them until I leave to make them happy. I miss sitting in the kitchen with my family eating good food. Anyone have any good idea on what I should make?

Even then, back at my place I dread cooking after work because my fucking boyfriend rarely cooks. It doesn't help I deal ith food when work too.

TL;DR: Falling out of the joy of cooking. Has anyone else experienced any of this? :( So sad. This just depresses me. Sorry everyone, I'm just venting.

Any new recipes that you made recently?

I'm going to go grocery today and I'm bored of making sandwiches 80% of the time-- I get free artisan bread from my roommate's bread delivery job. So that's getting old.

I'm also tired of pork at the moment. I've been making shredded pork (bbq or mexican) way too much, because pork is cheap.

Anyway, please share some recipes that you enjoyed.

Thanks.

pic related: butter chicken i made a couple of months ago. i'm not really feeling it for indian at the moment.

I just bought a bag of masa that was on sale. Unfortunately, the expiration date is 12/23/2013.

Until then, I'd love for anyone to share their favorite (family recipes would be awesome, seriously) tamale recipes, or maybe even pupusa recipe. Perhaps any recipe that involves masa!

Thanks in advance.

I recently started a new job, and I love it. Here and there, my boss lets us take shit home for free. I work for a small catering company, and on Tuesday we will have to do a deep cleaning of the store. I'd like to make my boss and coworker something that they can snack on or eat... Preferably something that isn't too heavy, especially since my boss seems like the type to watch her figure.
Thanks!

What spices & herbs do you have on hand? Pics definitely welcome

Me:

Cumin, cumin seeds, garlic powder, onion powder, basil, oregano, parsley, paprika, cayenne, nutmeg, cinnamon, bay leaf, ground clove, red chili flakes, da kine hawaiin rub, green cardamom, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, coriander powder, turmeric, some indian chili powder, asafoetida.

I been wanting to experiment with Indian food, so if anyone sees what I can make with the spices I have on hand, that'd be fucking awesome.

Also, does spice quality matter, and is it noticable? I used to buy some spices at a local spice shop, but they raised up their prices a bit; I started to buy cheap spices from the grocery ($1) to save money.

I have an interview at a local artisan bread company. I don't really have much job experience under the belt; I've worked as a bakery clerk at a chain store for 6 months up until I had to leave to see my family in a different state. Other than that, I guess you can say that was my first job was that.

The position was for a baker and it starts at 3am; my previous job made me start at 4am, and i mostly packaged products that the baker was spitting out of the oven. The only bread baking experience I have is baking french bread at 4, 5, and 6 pm. ;_; other than that, i'm pretty afraid of this interview.

anyone have good advice for this, and is anyone experienced with a baking position? please let me know how it is. thanks.

ITT; dishes you love, but can never get right when you make it yourself ;_;

for me...

mac and cheese. I've attempted mac and cheese atleast 5 times and ended up with gross, curdled results. I've grated blocks of cheese, tried evaporated milk, full fat milk, and it still comes up all gross, gunky, and curdled.

not sure if this is the right board to post in, but--

Which consumers less $/energy? Toaster oven or a gas oven?

I'm always using the gas oven for small things like 1 potato, kale chips, etc. I would think that a gas oven is more costly, considering you have to wait for it to pre-heat and it's the whole oven it's heating... With the toaster oven, it's a small box that seems to get heated quickly.

anyone know? thanks in advance

Okay, thanks.

I'm usually hesitant to buy meats that are on sale now... I bought some pork ribs from Fresh & Easy that was on sale, froze it, and a couple of days later when I was defrosting it, it smelled really funky and I threw it out.

I bought pork last week and stuck it in the freezer... The sell-by date on it is March 2-- 3 days ago. Is this still okay to eat? I'm still defrosting it in cold water, so I can't give it a whiff.

Thanks
