If it doesn't say it's 100% agave on the front it is definitely bad tequila. That's all I can tell you. You may just dislike the agave flavour which would make you dislike all tequila as it's a pretty distinctive taste.

Buy some decent Tequila

Pretty much anything 100% blue Agave but some brands are better than others like 1800 Anejo or Reposado are fantastic tasting very smokey. If you want cheap try some Jose Cuervo Traditional Anejo. Just avoid the cheap gold and silver garbage if it doesn't say 100% Agave then don't buy it.

I'm no expert on rums. This is what I'd recommend putting in your cabinet if you're a cocktail man of simple tastes like myself:

- a bottle of Kirkland spiced rum (cheap and decent, works for all of your summer drinks and as a tester for tiki drinks)
- a bottle of Bacardi 151 (basic standard for overproof rum, recommended by Puerto Ricans)
- a bottle of Havana Club 7 (good cheap sub for Ron Zac 23)
- pretty much any clear rum, none of them are fantastic but all of them are necessary for a multitude of cocktails (Bacardi or Myers, anything that costs at least 15 bucks)

So I'm not a big drinker, but what kind of mainstream beer is the best? Like I'm talking stuff like Bud Light, Coors Light, Michalob Ultra, Budweiser, etc. I live in Texas and see a lot of people drinking Bud Light. i've worked in a mexican bar for the past 2 and a half years and this is my list of best tequilas:

casamigos
ocho
fortaleza
siembre azul
anything that is a raicilla

only drink 100% blue weber agave tequilas and only drink blancos. it is illegal to place additives in blanco tequilas but you can for repasados and anejos.

also if you want more complex agave flavors look into pechuga mezcals. they're distilled with ingredients hanging above them to sweat out the flavors and are super unique.

Rum is tricky because labeling requirements are pretty lax in most countries. They don't need to mention how much sugar was added before bottling (usually a pretty hefty amount) or whether artificial colors were used. Dark rums don't get their color from aging. It could be molasses adding the color, but it could be artificial. The number on the bottle doesn't tell you very much, either. If a bottle says 12 years on it, that could just be because a drop of the old stuff was used in the blend. Given how much evaporation occurs in hot climates, really old rum is expensive since the angel's share is so much higher than a place like Kentucky.

Kinda like a honey wine, except it's technically not "wine" since there's no grapes used. While actual "honey wine" exists, mead is different because it's made by fermenting honey with grains and spices or hops. I guess in a sense it's closer to beer than wine, but I thought it tasted like wine.

Supposedly Vikings drank it which gives it it's meme status. I just like it because it's sweet and strong.

Tequila is bretty good, but I personally only like the 'Añejo' and 'extra añejo' varieties, they have a delicious smokey / oak wood taste that can't be found anywhere else. I don't like rhe other types of tequila because the alcohol taste is too strong, and it simply kills the taste.

When I drink tequila I like to drink half a bottle without lemon/sangrita in order to appreciate the taste, and then drink the rest with lemon or sangrita, it's bretty good as well.

There are non-mainstream tequilas which taste really good compared to the commercial stuff, but you can only find them in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. Honestly, the stuff you can find in a supermarket or a shop simply doesn't compare.
