That's sadly a very common thing. If an MRE has something 'nice' inside it's tempting for a seller to snip it out and sell it separately.

Like I can BET you all the vintage smokes have been removed from all the MRE's that contain them. Those get sold separate for 50-70 USD a pop.

Convenience cost, essentially.
There's already the premium you're paying for a processed, packed, shelf-stable food. Now add on another premium for all of that to get shipped to one place and re-packed into one container.
Now add ANOTHER premium because most MREs are being sold second-hand since there's no way to get them direct from the military in most cases.

Pretty much everything in American MREs can be bought at the store. Drink mix? Check. Energy bar? Check. Candy? Check. Instant coffee? Check. Gum? Check. The only specialized thing you're going to have to get is sealed entrees.
Like buy some MREs off of eBay, eat one or two a week, and you'll realize just how easily you could make them on your own with a vacuum sealer.
