If you like a more rye forward/"spicy" bourbon, you'd like this one.

I'd recommend going to a local bar that has a good whiskey list and asking the bartender for suggestions. Much better to taste a few different bourbons before jumping into a bottle you might not like.

Failing that, Buffalo Trace has a pretty similar taste profile and is cheaper than 4 Roses Single Barrel.

alright you fucks educate me. Every hard liquor I've ever tried including whiskey tastes like alcohol only. Whatever flavor they've got underneath I can not detect. Even in beers, the alcohol flavor is so strong it's hard for me to discern an actual taste, it's all basically the same alcoholy flavor to me. This makes me think people who talk about how certain brands of booze are better than others are just kidding themselves, but because taste is subjective I know it may also be a localized problem to me. If it is a localized problem only for me, how do I get rid of it? Is it because I have a virgin tongue because I don't drink or what? Am I doing something wrong? Should I stand on my head, take a sip and aerate it right after making a blood sacrifice of my first child to dionysus? What's the secret to enjoying alcohol?

All of my life I was looking forward to trying and enjoying alcohol, and now that it's available I feel like I've been tricked.

>> No.9616216

this, and also could be you're not drinking quality shit
try some pricier scotch, maybe a 40 dollar bottle like Pig Nose or Isle of Skye, for something a bit more complex. It still may not taste good to you, but I think it will be better

If you're starting out you HAVE to add a small bit of water to whisky. Every bartender will tell you this.
Also DO NOT TRY SCOTCH
scotch is the strongest form of whisky, try a mid price ($35-45) blended whisky first. Pour in the glass and swirl it for a bit just so it aerates, then take a small sip on the tip of your tongue and let it dissolve. Then add a Small bit of water, enough to reduce the burning but not that flavor.

After about a week, you will start to notice flavors you hadn't before. Caramel, citrus, and oak are all parts that are noticeable and delicious.

I have never had a bourbon I liked.
I like wide variety of whiskys, but most of my stuff has come from Highland or Islay, although I have also liked some nip stuff as well. So far I've yet to find a Irish whisky I like as well, so far they've been too tame of a taste.
What's a good bourbon? Sell me on them. I'm a Finnfag and our bourbon selection hasn't been exactly large, so it might have an effect, and my dad dislikes them as well, which has a large effect, since our tastes are quite similar

I know that whiskey gets most of its flavor (and color) from the barrels that it's stored in. Does aging the product in a commercial bottle improve the quality at all? Glass bottle with a corked stopper.

A small town whiskey distillery has opened near me. Less than a mile from my house in fact. They brew handmade liquor in batches of around 100 gallons. In a building that was historically a distillery but shut down for many years before the new owners opened their doors. It's my hometown so I want to support them by buying a bottle of their expensive reserve. Not particularly interested in drinking it now though, just keeping it as a souvenir for some sentimental occasion years later.

But I liked the taste of what a friend into this once offered me, I didn't remember the name but it has a distinctive strong but "earthy' taste, it was like drinking wood.

I feared the Nikka would taste like the other did but to my surprise it was riche, balanced and mellow, quite unusual for me. If even a ~30€ priced bottle can taste as good as this, then I'll be ok to buy more pricy ones and getting to know other flavors.

After a week of this you should learn to ignore the alcohol and just enjoy the refreshing corn taste. After that, try a hard cider and an IPA and do the same thing. To answer your question, no. They aren't always going to do that. A couple weeks of regular drinking will get rid of that.

Makers is a good choice for bourbon but if you're just starting to drink whiskey you should have gone with a sweeter bottle. I feel like Makers tastes too much like oak unless I add a bit of water. Forty Creek is a great blended Canadian whisky and its sweet af.

Like I said, add a small bit of water and it will reduce the burn/medicine part of it, and enjoy
