Good or Bad?

That's the question.

i live in a country where i got the suspicion that we have not very up to date health tips and info regarding good and bad foods and diets (mexico).

Is coconut oil good or bad for ya?

The reason coconut oil gets shilled as "good fats" is because they contain roughly 10% MCTs which actually are good for you. However, the other 90% is basically all regular saturated fat.

tl;dr It's shown to be almost as bad as butter in terms of effects on LDL cholesterol. Avoid it.

its worse than butter
the reason it gets shilled is because vegans use it as an alternative to butter

Medfag here.

The cholesterol meme has really gotten out of hand. Unless your total cholesterol is in the 300's, high cholesterol in and of itself has very little effect on health. You don't get artery clogging (in lieu of disease involvement) until >300mg/dl. Cholesterols, both the "good" and "bad", are necessary for your body to function. Low cholesterol is associated with a number of health risks, depression, heart attacks, and stroke. People tend to have higher LDL because it's more common in food.. The 'ideal' ratio (from what we do know) is <3.5:1 (total to HDL).

>rice bran oil
A while ago a lot of fish and chip shops switched to that and advertised it as healthier. Guessing it's not much better than vegetable oil going off that graph. Tasted awful too. They switched back after a year or so.
