I guess it would be nurtia, which is kinda like a huge rat. They're an invasive species around here in New Orleans, and while they're not commonly eaten the cajuns cook them up a lot. I've tried baked nutria a couple of times over the years, though it's not anything great. Kinda like gamey, mediocre chicken I guess?

I got some strange meat in my stew once when a child. I could hardly chew it and it had a strange, gray colour. My dad asked the staff but they didn't know. He then bought the plate into the kitchen to ask the chef. He came back without the meat and with some fries instead and wouldn't tell us what kind of meat it was.

Picked these up from Wal Mart the other day because they were reduced to $1.50 a package.
Strange in that I had to chop off all the chicken nails, so I had a pile of chopped off chicken nails in my kitchen. Then I scrubbed their feet, and a few of the feet had these dark, wart-like growths on the bottoms that I had to shave off.

I fixed them up like dim sum claws and ate a couple. It tastes like cartilage and collagen. Not saying it's a bad thing, but it's a lot of effort for a little meat and all the flavor comes from the sauces you season them with. So if you fuck up the sauce, you're fucked. It's just weird eating a meat that doesn't depend on its own merit but rather the seasoning.

It was quite large with big pieces of meat. The shell was thick as 2-3mm in places. Split one as a main course btw friend and myself and we barely finished it.

The flesh was distinct from that of cold water crabs from the North Pacific. Much more stringy, muscular, and soft. Not brine tasting at all. These crabs are air breathing and will drown in water.

Tripe. Beef stomach. It's almost literally tasteless rubber.

I've also eaten tripas, which are simmered(braised?) and then grilled beef intestines. Wouldn't recommend unless the place is known for making them great. They have a very muddy, musky, fatty, flavor. And no, it's not because it was filled with shit.

Beef tongue is not bad, though...

Ate a lot of this when I was a teenager and working a fish processing plant. It was only later I discovered how expensive it is to buy.

I guess I've eaten pretty much every part of cod, including roe, milt and eyes. And most parts of pigs and cows. I didn't realise some people find things like cow tongue or porkcheeks unusual to eat really.

Kangaroo, horse, snails, frogs, snakes, lizards, ostrich...
I'll try almost anything. I've had insects but the idea of eating a whole animal in one go irks me. At least prawns are de-veined. Plus you get bits of leg and carapace stuck in your throat and teeth, much like what happens with popcorn. Not worth it, especially since insect isn't cheaper than pork yet.

As a white American, I can say that the rest of the world doesn't understand that when we have the seemingly boundless resources we do, and when we have almost no long-lasting hardship or famine anywhere in our history, that no, we have never felt the need to explore eating parts beyond what we consider the 'proper' cuts of meat. The only way we eat those things normally is either through foreigners coming here and bringing them to restaurants (ie. I first had tongue in tacos from a mexican cart), or through random adventurous spurts.

Americans are a people truly blessed by plenty, you must understand that to understand American ways of life and culture.

No, sheep penises aren't corkscrewed. That's just a rather silly "spiral meat" gimmick that a lot of places make.

Pig penises (and also ducks') are the ones that are spiral. There are videos available.
