Why do we even use plates?

For most of our history as humans we never used plates. Should we not just enjoy the savory flavors imparted on our food from mother nature?

After all, it is natural and is the highest form of eating that strengthens our gut flora from the dangers of fad diets and overprotective chefs.

For most of history giving birth came with a very high risk of death. So did the flu or a broken leg.
