I am so sick of these shitty food trends.

Examples:

>Coconut oil
Opposite macros of olive oil. High in saturated fat (solid at room temp) and low in unsaturated fat. Perceived as healthy by hippies and idiot stay at home moms.

>Kale
Tasteless and tough as shit. No healthier than any other leafy green and toxic in high amounts.

>Stevia
Much less studied than aspartame. No health benefits, not proven to be any safer than aspartame which is made of two amino acids aspartic acid and phenylalanine (building blocks of protein that all of our bodies use regularly).

>Against MSG
Another animo acid, a glutamine ion, bonded to a sodium ion. Very rarely is anyone allergic to it contrary to what they commonly report. Used all the time in our bodies and found in high amounts in many other common foods. Parm cheese, tomatoes, anchovies, fish sauce, seaweed etc contain high amounts of MSG.

>Cane sugar better for you than High fructose corn syrup.
All sugars break down into the same constituents. There is no difference in health value in HFCS compared to cane sugar. There may be a slight difference in taste, which is a positive but comes at a higher price. The real downside of HFCS is that it is dirt cheap and is added to many cheap processed foods in high amounts unnecessarily.

Discuss and let me know if you disagree hippies.

Uhhh ok? The logic is correct. If you only cooked with coconut oil over a long period vs olive oil you would see a difference health wise. High saturated fat (less desirable) in coconut oil vs high mono and poly unsaturated fats (omega 3, omega 6, etc) in olive oil. > Getting protein from beans isn't any healthier than getting protein from beef

I mean this is basically just wrong

The problem with getting protein from beans vs beef isn't even the extra fat or cholesterol or any of that. The problem is that beans do not contain "essential" amino acids that our bodies need to be healthy. Essential amino acids can only be found in large quantities in animal protein. Vegan diets don't contain all the essential amino acids and people that follow them often have to take supplements to get those essential proteins otherwise they can get sick.

I should have been more clear. Animal protein contains all 9 essentials. Plant based protein is often called incomplete protein because different profiles are found in different plants. Quinoa and soy have the most complete protein profile but you still have to eat a varied diet and think about what you are eating a lot more in order to get all 9 essential aminos. Lots of vegans do take supplements to easily get their aminos. People have weird diets. I for one think being vegan is fucking weird.

This is somewhat false, fructolysis is a separate biochemical pathway from glycolysis . Fructose causes your body to create a higher ratio of triglycerides than glucose.

That being said, both cane sugar and HFCS contain both fructose and glucose... HFCS just has more fructose.

As a Spaniard I can confirm this, we soak everything in olive oil and yet we're very healthy and have less obesity than the much richer northern European countries.

Most grains are gmo now but people don't even know. They get cheaper to buy and famines are avoided. No adverse health effects.

Not really.
Many synthetic sugarfree sweeteners trigger your insulin production and then your fat storage picks up again. Ofc, less so than sugar but still in enough amounts for you to start storing fat despite being satiated and/or eating regularly in healthy amounts.
Also, your teeth and mouth bacterial flora do not enjoy any type of soda.

One major weakness of most of the 20 or so studies (no not hundreds) that found these results is that they dis not control for grain consumption at all.

It might be a dumb miss that doesn't matter but it could matter. Wait until people reproduce with better controls.

a food is by definition health promoting, if by health you mean keeping the body alive by providing calories and nutrients for cellular activity. what matters is relative compared to another food, for a particular person at a particular time, based on their health goals. "healthfood" should be thrown out as a term.
