This actually would probably look pretty good when it was finished and plated, I'd imagine. It's still clearly in the process of cooking, and there's peas and some other veg (potatoes, maybe white beans?) in lots of oil. If they put it in a little bowl with bread or something to have with it (after cooking it down a bit or adding something else, probably) it could be nice. Or it might even be meant as a soup, and they blend it at the end.

That's a stupid amount of truffle though, Jesus.

But personally frozen vegetables come out too mushy for my likes, I prefer veggies with some snap, but frozen peas taste the same as fresh. When you freeze vegetables the water molecules in the vacuoles of the plant cells expand and can damage fibers that make vegetables crunchy and not mushy. But if you don't mind the mushiness, go right ahead. If vegetables taste good, I'm inclined to eat more of them.

Grocery store employee here, lemme tell you about food stamp customers.
Over here it's done through either EBT(monthly stipends deposited into a debit card) or WiC(checks for specific grocery items, usu. baby needs), if you don't know how they work just look it up.
These people buy way more than just $29 of groceries every week, almost all WiC purchases hover above $50-$60USD just counting the baby food. 8/10 food stamp customers also come into the store already planning to buy more than what their food stamps allow them. They always keep them as separate transactions rather than using a split payment, and these extra items are usually snack stuff like coke and chips. This is especially true for EBT users, and what's more is that after their groceries are done they usually ask to get the remaining EBT money as cash back.
It's not like these food stamp users are living solely on that shit and if they really do worry about not having enough to eat, I never hear any of it from them. From what I can see in my store, they buy just about as much food and drink as any other weekly customer, they just don't buy as much processed GMO crap.
And just as an aside, the ones around here don't throw a fit out of using that shit, for them and for us it's just a natural part of the transaction. Unless it's a WiC user that grabbed the wrong shit, those checks are very specific about what brand and what size they can use it on so it gets really shitty when it comes to milk and juice.

Healthy food is actually far, far cheaper. Most people who say it's expensive eat mostly highly processed grain foods and potato foods (and a lot of meat, which is expensive). Oats and fresh potatoes are far cheaper and healthier (less oil, sodium). That switch alone would clean up a lot of their bad diet habits. Of course they don't think those things taste good.

Growing up in NY state, we always used real dinnerware for everything. Thanksgiving would bring out the silver and special stuff. I've lived in SC now for 18 years. These people have families of ungodly size and you'll have 250 pounds of food spread out with sometimes more than 40-50 people there if not every part of your family shows up. They use styrofoam trays a lot. I saw one time at a coworkers get together they actually had old plastic type trays they got at a sale left over from a school closing down. I prefer them over paper plates though because at least nothing touches or mixes together for the most part. I don't want mac n cheese soaked in bean juice.

They dock % off based on income but only up to 30% so if they earn money its supplemental if they earn nothing they get a shitload of food money. The average is 126$ a month per person Even feeding myself off of just 31.5$ a week is easy as fuck since rice, beans, chicken and some veggies aren't that fucking expensive and you add in some more of that for a family and you have a shit ton of extra left over to get non essentials. Chicken at my grocery store is 87 cents a lb for whole chickens or legs and thighs packages so about 3 bucks a bird or a shitload of legs and thighs. 5lbs of potatoes are 2 bucks 50lbs for 9$, 80% ground beef is 3.50 a lb and 93% 3.99, grapes and oranges are on sale for a buck a lb, center chops are 3 bucks and end chops are 2 a lb, pork spare ribs are only 1.79 a lb this week, brisket is 2.49 a lb, 50lbs of rice is like maybe 20 bucks which is 2 and half cups of rice a day for a month , you throw in potatoes and you can stretch that for 2 months ez. This is all supplemental as well and if it isn't you have 200$ base which is a shitload for food. You can easily live well on just 126 a month.

Potatoes are $2 for a 10lb. bag
A bag of black dirt onions is $1
Dozen large grade a eggs are a $1
Six limes are a $1
Giant jar of pickles is $2
2 cabbages are $2
Six jalapenos are a $1
A bag of carrots is $1
So that leaves orange pellets at $2, liver at $2, and purple potatoes for $1.
Why would opt for 3 potatoes instead of 10lb., 3 onions instead of a bag, and half as many carrots to save a dollar?

Oh wait, that's carbonite...

Of all the gal-pals I've known over the years only 3 knew how to actually use a kitchen and cook. Most had a go-to dish like matzo-ball soup or boxed mac & cheese and would eat out the rest of the time. The rest of us poor fags (most of us dudes and some gals) either had family recipes or learned from reading and would pool together to make bomb-ass dishes on the economical side.

"But if you make an ugly woman your wifeA-you'll be happy for the rest of your lifeAn ug-a-ly woman cooks meals on timeAnd she'll always give you peace of mind

Don't let your friends say you have no tasteGo ahead and marry anywayThough her face is ugly, her eyes don't matchTake it from me, she's a better catch

Egg omelet with pepper, English muffin with (what looks like) some kind of preserves, toast (again with either preserves or some kind of jam). Just the thought of it is gross.
And almost %300 saturated fat for daily recommended allowance ( and that's in USA standards ) is just... Wow.

For a good time, my friend and I would drop acid and hang out in our Wild West town. There was a Wal-Mart where everybody but us were morbidly obese. It was fun at first but got depressing as fuck real quick... Watching them gobble stuff like this down in one of those Yum! Brand restaurants where it's all 3 in 1 (KFC, Taco Bell, etc...). It was like living in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas with all these monsters sloshing around gurgling, "More, more, MORE! I wants it."
