All supermarkets have their own 2 tier brands as well as name brands.
The packaging here is their value and they're have a 'regular'. More often than not they're both exactly the same so you may as well get the value one. Rarely do I get anything name brand.
Only stuff I don't scrimp on are a few items they just can't seem to make for cheap - Toilet paper, bleach, toothpaste etc

That suspicion would be correct. I know someone who worked as a food packager way back and one of the things they frequently did was put one kind of peanut butter into different jars for name brands and store brands.

This kind of practice isn't exactly new and if you're willing to try store brands, you can definitely save money.

My first job was working in a factory that made glue, we used to put PVA glue in the generic packaging in the morning but swap the labels for a well known brand in the afternoon, same machines and product but a different label but they charged 5 times the price. I would imagine food is the same, I have tasted cheap stuff that is better than some brands.

Do you bongs realize you cannot get double cream in America? It just doesn't exist here.

Suet you have to order special online at a high price because butchers here use muscle fat.

Pre-mixed puds ready for steaming would also be a nice because of how expensive dried fruit is.

We also only have a handful of orchards with Bramley or Cox appled, and you can forget about red and black currants.

Have to order in golden syrup and golden castor sugar.

Nope. Poor people who can't afford food used to get this "cheese product" from the American government.

I don't think they include cheese anymore, but the whole idea is that they give you several types of basic food staples to feed your family while you try to get a job that can do that. People like to stereotype those who receive government assistance as lazy assholes, but by the numbers it's mostly families that only take the help temporarily.

I've never been in the position to need government cheese, but it makes me feel good that my taxes sometimes go to things that aren't the military or the Nth eternally in-progress highway improvement.

Why do americans get 'government food'? Why not just welfare to buy regular food with?

Sounds so fucking sad and commie

Because why give them money when you can give them food products that cost less to produce than the food they would have bought with it, and just spend it on the military instead?

>and just spend it on the military instead?
This tired old meme again. America spends less than 4% of its GDP on the military, a good chunk of which goes to defending NATO countries who just happen to not spend nearly as much on their militaries because of it.

This is public info. Read a book.

Should've gone to a store called fresh and easy when it still existed. Owned by Tesco had a lot of brit foods and snacks littered within regular clapistan food stuffs.

they don't anymore, actually, but it helped to use up surplus milk the government bought from dairy farmers as a subsidy so that it didn't just get destroyed.

Think of the best granny's home made apple pie and sub par, grocery store, boxed apple pie. That's how canned corned beef compares to the real stuff.
It depends on the brand, but I've had canned corned beef where the product felt like finely pulled beef. Other brands have meat in them that just felt like mush because it was just so processed you couldn't even see the strands. Canned corned beef tastes of beef, barely of garlic and onion, and mostly of salt and other curing agents.
