All supermarkets have their own 2 tier brands as well as name brands.
The packaging here is their value and they're have a 'regular'. More often than not they're both exactly the same so you may as well get the value one. Rarely do I get anything name brand.
Only stuff I don't scrimp on are a few items they just can't seem to make for cheap - Toilet paper, bleach, toothpaste etc

This kind of practice isn't exactly new and if you're willing to try store brands, you can definitely save money.

My first job was working in a factory that made glue, we used to put PVA glue in the generic packaging in the morning but swap the labels for a well known brand in the afternoon, same machines and product but a different label but they charged 5 times the price. Think of the best granny's home made apple pie and sub par, grocery store, boxed apple pie. That's how canned corned beef compares to the real stuff.
It depends on the brand, but I've had canned corned beef where the product felt like finely pulled beef. Other brands have meat in them that just felt like mush because it was just so processed you couldn't even see the strands. Canned corned beef tastes of beef, barely of garlic and onion, and mostly of salt and other curing agents.
