/ck/ - Food & Cooking

7925036 No.7925036[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

I have been thinking that there should be a unique board for cooking only.
The post of people that actually is interested in cooking are always left behind for threads about pizza, hot dogs, sodas, etc., and thats a shame.
When people come here to talk about how to cook, some technique, etc., the replys are low and there is almost no interest and those treads are always deleted soon because of the continous shitpost.
Is there any way to create a unique board for cooking?

The board is slow enough that even all the junk and meme food isn't exactly knocking good threads of the backpage.

If you don't know how to filter bad threads while browsing, that's your issue.

If you want to have some kind of 'haute cuisine' discussion, it's possible here. But if you really insist, >>>/his/ is the go-to 'high culture' board and I think the janitors would make temporary allowances like that.

It's not reinventing the wheel, it's just separete two kind of topics. Even if it sounds that food & cooking seems to go well together it's not.

>>7925054
You could keep cooking and visit the board to discuss about hot dogs.

>>7925062
Yes, it's slow. But being fast does it make it better? the quality of this board if really low. There is almost not OC. People in /mu/ listen music, share records, share their songs, even with the continous shitpost; people in /fit/ workout, share exersice rutines, etc. And what about /ck/? nothing, is people that eat pizza everyday and post the same pizza everyday.

I wouldnt care if the board is even slower than now if it raises the amount of people that actually talk about cooking. I have posted some OC sometimes and there is cool people to talk about here. It's just to separate people that want to talk about something in particular.

>the quality of this board if really low. There is almost not OC

Interesting point, especially compared to other boards. I think it's because it's relatively effortless to share something elsewhere: just cut-and-paste a link. OTOH, it's actually a bit of effort to post OC here. I've done it a few times, and it's a fuck of a lot more work than just posting a link to a song or something.

Specifically:
-it's a hassle to wash hands, grab camera, take photo, wash hands again.

Then there's the matter of resizing the pictures, cropping, and then posting. Posting is a bother because of the delay timer between posts.

>> No.7925189

>>7925135
>There is almost not OC

That's because when there is an OC thread, it either gets ignored or the replies are just shitposting. Most OC threads barely last half a day at most. So, there's not a lot of motivation for people to post OC. Real OC threads here take a lot of time, since people have to document their entire cooking process, so when they get completely blown off, it's not much of a incentive to make them.

Are people blind, or do you miss those threads all the time? Sure people will talk about fast food and pre-fabricated items, mostly because there's much more to talk about some item that you can actually eat and have an opinion about, rather than an image of some dish you made which we can't readily judge. >>Why are you trying to discourage people posting cooking on the cooking board?

I wasn't. I just didn't see the point in posting only one photo of a finished dish when google does that job so much better that this board does. I'm advocating posting pics of the whole process. IMHO, posting just a finished photo is pointless--there's a bazillion better photos of finshed dishes to be had online.

It's like you are incapable of reading or understanding simple concepts.

The hands GET dirty when you touch the food. So you clean them, and take a photo. Then they are dirty again from touching the camera. So you clean them again. Now you're back to cooking.

You have to repeat this at least six times to make a meaningful step by step photo shoot of the cooking, and that is if you're cooking something simple.

Both of those statements are false.

The factors determining what is at the top of the catalog are:
1) number of posts.
2) time the posts were made

Neither of those have anything to to do with the content of the posts. Many threads get massive numbers of posts because it's a trollfest. Other times the discussion night be totally off topic. We have many posts in this very thread that have nothing to do with cooking, but instead are about the hassles of posting detailed OC and the nature of different kinds of threads on the board. Actually it's only 2, ignoring sage. And in terms of probability that any one thread is high up, then this is directly proportional to rate of posts the thread gets.

>Neither of those have anything to to do with the content of the posts.
Unless we have reason to assume cooking threads gets proportionally more shitposting compared to non-cooking threads, then it is logical to assume that the rate of content (that is posts that are not shitposting) is proportional, to the same degree between cooking and non cooking threads, to the number of posts being made. So the fact that those threads (if we accept your assumption that cooking threads are overrepresented around the top) get more posts should mean they get relatively more content than non cooking threads. Again, if we assume there is not proportionally more shitposting in cooking threads, by why would it be anyway?

Why not use a dedicated cooking website with forum?

lol. You need to realize all of 4chan is like this and accept it or move on. This site is for casuals who are mostly 15-25 and halfway or uneducated etc.

So people on /tv/ bitch about all the idiots that watch infantile movie and shows, and I imagine most every other board is also full of adolescent plebs. It's just the nature of this site. /ck/ isn't for "mature cooks" just like /tv/ isn't for real cinephiles.

Pizza, hot dogs and sriracha are fine, you get semi-related shit on every board. Like manlet and tfwnogf threads on /fit/.
And beekeeping can stay. What ever happened to homebrewmen and homegrowmen? They were cool

They abandoned ship because /ck/ took a turn for the worse and their threads were getting trolled to fuck and back, just like OC threads about actual cooking do today.

complaining about reddit was "cool" in like 2011 or so because it was a way of establishing oldfag cred, then /pol/ picked it up as /pol/'s reputation as a refugee camp for self-pitying straight white men spread among more "censored" parts of the internet like reddit

in turn as /pol/ spilled into other boards during any of the failed attempts to clean the place up, /pol/fags shibbolethed each other by bitching about "redditors", i.e., in their view, anyone whose politics and views on gender/sexuality didn't conform to their belief that the most oppressed position on earth is to be born a straight white man living in the comfort and safety of a first world white suburb

And that's going to stop the shitposting how exactly?

The issue is lax moderation and the need for more pro-active janitors who cull the shitty off-topic and irrelevant meme threads - not the need for another board.
